  • nitrous Q?

    First thank you for taking the time to read this and help me

    I have a 1999 F-bird with an auto trans I have done a cut beck exhaust and I put on a k&n filter and I took out the air box (silencer thing) and put a 3” pipe to connect it all (home made intake works great really performance boost)

    I have a 140,000 miles on the car it works fine from what I now (not much because I’m not a mechanic)

    I do have air/fuel gauge and, fuel psi and trans temp.

    OK so mine question

    1. should I do it (put it on the bottle)
    2. what would I need (NOS parts)
    3. what other upgrades should I do to the car to make it more safe and to get the most performance out of it

    I was racing a kid he was driving i think 1995 eclipse he had nitrous and after the race when we ware just driving his car started making BOOM noises(exhaust) and you could see fire coming from the muffler

    Is this normal OR what when wrong ??

    As for the backfiring in the eclipse, what can I say, its an Mitsubishi He probably has it set up incorrectly and running too rich. The boom coming from the exhaust is probably unburned fuel igniting on its way out.

    If your car has 140k on it, its up to you spray it or not. I am a little biased and I would say fvck it, juice it!! :D

      I know I read all of this treads for like a year now I’m just still not sure the mane thing besides the mileage on the engine is that I want constant power not just when I juice it, so I guess that I would have to go with a turbo or a SC the thins is that I know that if I do that I’m gone have to rebuild the hole motor so I’m not sure either way.

      If I just rebuild the hole engine with new preferment’s parts how fast (hp) do you thing it would be and how much($$)

        If you are rebuilding the motor, you still need the same safety stuff as if you were going to be running an internally stock motor for nitrous.

        As far as how much it costs for a performance rebuild....A TON!! I dont know exactly how much and how far you want to go with the build, you may want to snoop around in the Advanced Tech section, they would know better than I would. You will want forged rods, pistons, maybe a steel crank and a set of set of either Abbott or ZZP heads, parts alone would be roughly $2500 plus install uless you can do it yourself. Thats not including a cam swap or complete fuel system either.

        I dont know how much power it will give you either cuz it all depends on what compression you want, which heads you want and the cam you pick.

        If you want constant power than go with a turbo or sc, but you will be spending even more money cuz they cost quite a bit much more than nitrous and sometimes need more tuning, just ask dmw13 what he had to go thru to get his car running right with his sc. Turbos tend to need even more tuning than anything else not to mention the cost cuz they are custom kits on our cars.

        This whole post is going to come down to how much you want to spend. If you are budgetless, then your golden. But if you want to completely build your motor and turbo it, I would guess you would spend something near $8-9,000 when you were all done. Maybe more.
