  • Nitrous Kit for 97 camaro?!

Ok, ive searched a lot, but most people have nitrous for the 98+ years which have the air lid, 97's dont, and i was reading on safety anf stuff, so wut is the best/less money nitrous kit that comes with the fpss and everything else needed for 97 camaros? thanks

i have a hard time believing your part that says...."Ok, ive searched a lot...."

There are tons of guys running nitrous from 95-02 3.8l engines. It doesn't matter if they have a lid or not either, the kits all work the same or have similar installation.

Also from all the searching you have done you should already know which kits are the best/less money and highly recommended. I am sure almost all your threads you checked on about nitrous talked about either a NX wet kit or a NOS 05175 dry kit.

Sorry to sound snippy, we just see a lot of guys asking the same stuff about nitrous and it gets sickening answering the same thing all the time. Hope you understand and don't take it the wrong way or anything. I am always glad to help with stuff after the research has been done already or has been started at least. Everything you are asking has been covered a ton already though.

How hard did ya search? :p J/k :)

Any kit will work, doesnt matter what year of the car. Just as long as its an EFI kit cuz most are universal unless otherwise specified. Hell, even some of the specific kits (i.e. NOS 5177 LS1 kit) will fit on our 97's.

I put a tap into the TB for the nozzle instead of in the intake/lid cuz we 97 guys cant do that. 97RS4life has his in the same location as me and he has had great results as well, actually he did it first and I copied him :p Check out my cardomain for pics.

NOS 05175 kit goes for about $520 + shipping from summit racing or jegs
            http://store.summitracing.com/partde...t=nos-05175nos

it comes with quite a bit and is highly recommended. IMO it is a great deal.

What kind of LT1 do you want to keep up with? If its got a 6 speed you'll need gears, LSD PLUS the 85 dry shot and you might be able to keep up. You at least stand a chance. To beat a 6 speed:

              1. gears, full bolt ons, LSD and 100 dry or...
              2. gears, full bolt ons, LSD and 85 wet

The 6 speeds came with 3.42's so you'll need those or better (3.73's or 4.10's) for gears.

              To beat an auto:

Same mods, just wont need the gears. The LT1 autos came with 2.73's so your 3.08's are actually an advantage. If you really want to show off, get a 3500+ torque converter and rear suspension. With those mods you'll beat'em no problem. :D But remember, if the LT1 has full bolt ons, he'll beat ya.

The biggest thing is the LSD cuz they'll launch waaaayyy better than you with the crappy open diff. When I say full bolt ons I mean intake system, headers, hi flow cat and cat-back exhaust. You dont need as much nitrous for a wet shot as you do a dry shot cuz wet kits hit harder and the power is more consistant than dry kits.

This is figuratively speaking. The biggest mod will be the driver, even with more horsepower, if you cant drive, you'll lose.

yup haha the other day i beat a 6.0 gto 3 times between short stretchs of red lights. haha. oh man.. but once we got to a freeway onramp it killed me when i hit 4th gear. i have no doubt that that car would otherwise destroy me but this guy had to be driving standard for the first time ever. . i heard him grind his 3 gear shift 2 out of the 3 times. and he still had dealer plates so i assume his car was allstock. . btw i have a 75 dry shot with basic mods . catback . coldair. . ps. street racing is bad haha:spank:
