  • what gear to dyno in?

    I'm thinking about going to the dyno soon, and was wondering since using nitrous if it would be better to dyno in 2nd gear rather then 4th gear. I know I always dynoed in 4th gear when I had it supercharged. I think it would be less stress on the motor, use less nitrous and also wouldn't get heat soaked as quick in 2nd gear. I'm on a .55 jet right now, and thinking of going to a .61 jet after I see what the .55 jet does. Would the dyno #'s be as accurate dynoing in 2nd gear? Let me Know what you think. Thanks Steve

          auto = 3rd
          manual = 4th

          both are 1:1 ratios and will give u an accurate hp reading.

            mine is a manual, how much would it be off if I dynoed in 2nd gear, would it read high or low numbers, I just don't want to use up all my nitrous doing a 4th gear dyno run and putting that much stress on the motor.

              Re: what gear to dyno in?

              u wont be using any more giggle juice spraying in 2nd or 4th.

              assuming u have it on a window switch. say form 3000-6000rpms (example)

              the gear ratio diff from 2nd to the actual 1:1 (4th) will gev u a false hp level reading.
              hopefully somebody else will chime in on your thread that has more knowledge about the gear ratios.

              in fact i dont know of any shops around here that will allow it to be juiced in a lower/quicker revving gear. at least not the ones im familiar with anyway.

              you will not be the one operating the car on the dyno either. they always have an operator running it, somebody who is (supposedly. haha) trained for it proper use.

              what u dont want to happen is something like this: (local shop, kid didnt setup a window switch)

              http://videos.streetfire.net/hottest...1BD5FBDD33.htm

              rewatch it again. listen to the rpms...they activated the juice so as soon as they hit wot it sprayed...but they were not in the 3k and above range when the went wot..sucks

              EDIT: this is under the presumption that your using a wet kit. either way RESPECT THE JUICE!

              peace, post up your results.

                I got to operate mine on the dyno :D

                I dont have a window switch hooked up, but I just ran mine up to about 3500 (and WOT) then armed it, when I got close to 5800 I turned it off. Just a little advice to those with autos and no window switch.

                  I have a window switch , it is set at 3200 to 5700 rpms. The guy at the dyno shop always has me in the drivers seat, cool guy lets me get as many runs I want for $60.00. When I had the supercharger I think I had 8 runs at one dyno session.Nice video.Well see what happens, I 'll try both 2nd and 4th gear to see difference.

                    u guys are lucky...they make most stand behind a wall or behind a painted "safety" area for dyno pulls...around here
