  • Nitrous Plate - Throttle Body Spacer

Well, theoretically, I might have aquired a ZEX wet kit. In theory, I wouldn't want to drill and tap my intake manifold, so I would need a spacer. Since I have access to tooling and materials, and I'm capable of designing, I was thinking about making my own nitrous plate....theoretically.

So lets say my plate/spacer looks like this:
    http://forum.camarov6.com/attachment...1&d=1160438765
Does anybody see any problems with the design?
The translucent blue model on the right is just to show the direction and location of the nozzle once mounted.

My concern is since it's not very far from the intake manifold, more fuel/nitrous would end up in the passenger side bank of the motor. I just don't know if that's gonna be a factor or not. If it is, I can to alter the design some..... IF there are sugguestions.

Either way, what do you guys think?

looks good to me. You dont tap the intake manifold btw, it is the tb you tap and it was no biggy for me when I did it.

Well, I've got the electronic throttle control crap, so I didn't even want to drill the throttle body at all.

your lucky you have the elect. throttle, you wont have to worry about the throttle cable reaching after the spacer. You make that in CAD? How thick did you make it?

Hell yeah man! That plate looks awesome! Just make sure you screw in the fogger nozzle ALL THE WAY in and you should clear the side of the manifold without any flow problems. Keep us updated too cuz if you are interested you could make a few more of those and sell them if it works. Just an idea. Heck, I'd buy, but its for a different TB and I have already tapped my TB too. :)

Yeah, I drew it up in AutoCAD first, then once I got all the dimensions to match up with the gasket (+ the water stream width), I brought it all into AutoDesk Inventor and made it 3D. Oh, and I made that 1" thick, even though I wanted to use 3/4". It was the only material I could find in the materials room.

Yeah, I'll keep ya updated when it gets done. If I would make more of them, I'd buy the material on ebay and have it machined out. If I did sell them, would $75 shipped with 2 gaskets and 3 new (longer) bolts be a good price? This one is gonna be made out of aluminum. Future ones prolly would be too.

Re: Nitrous Plate - Throttle Body Spacer

what u did there is exactly what i did for a local kid in my area.

bought the tb spacer from zzp, drilled and tapped 2 nos foggers, 1 in each side.

then seeing the fogger wasnt reaching in far enough i trimmed a notch so the nozzle would fit/reach farther in.

                worked perfect. still working today.

the tb spacer is made of delrin ( i think) or some other polymer. works *****en.

I was going to use delrin, but I couldn't find any the right thickness.

Re: Nitrous Plate - Throttle Body Spacer

Oh, yeah, I knew they had a spacer. I just didn't want to chance paying for it and shipping for a spacer that I might accidentally break when trying to drill/tap it. They couldn't tell me if it'd be strong enough, just that some people had tried it. So I figured I can get this made cheaper than the Thrasher plate on 3800performace too.

                        hahahaha...

yeah, the people they are/were talking about was me or at least i was one of them...hahahhaha

i offered to produce them, preprepped to be package in the nitrous systems like they do with the ls1/ls6 packages..hahahaha
                        single nozzle, dual nozzle. w/e.
they would just have to send me a few. :naughty:
                        they passed, hehehee:spank:

it works. plain and simple, u just have to be careful to drill straight. and tap it clean. the material is pretty durable, but it can strip out pretty easy.

                        peace

Re: Nitrous Plate - Throttle Body Spacer

Well, looking at the spacer from ZZP and stuff, I thought they blocked off all coolant. It looks like they drilled a hole in the spacer for coolant to pass through. See here: http://reviews.firebirdv6.com/images/296916_14_full.jpg from this thread http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=63737 and here: http://www.zzperformance.com/products_img/225_3.jpg
See the hole between the stud hole and the large central hole. Should I include that hole or not?
                          Will this hole affect anything?

                            i would.

dont quote me on this but i believe its part of the pcv system.
look at pcv mod in the FI section of the board.

Oh crap, that's for the PCV. DUH. I shoulda put two and two together after looking into the throttle body. So, I redesigned it to allow for that.
                              Whatcha think of this:
