  • Whats a good kit?

Im thinking of running a small shot of nitrous, like a 50 shot or so. What would be a good kit to buy? Also what else do I need for it, bottle warmer, guages? Also what are some precautions I can take to make sure everything is going to work well and so that I won't have any problems. Thanks.

    Supporting mods MUST BE DONE:

    1. Cat-back exhaust
    2. Cold air intake
    3. TR6 spark plugs gapped at .035

Now that the motor is breathing...

NOS 5175 kit is highly regarded and recommended by most people on this site and it can be easily upgraded to a wet kit. I converted my 5175 to a wet kit and absoluetely love it.

    4. Get a window switch. This enables the nitrous to spray within a certain rpm range. Always a good safety feature. I blew up my intake cuz I didnt use a window switch, they are worth every penny.

    5. Get a Fuel Pressure Safety Switch (FPSS) Very important. Most kits come with them.

    6. Get a bottle warmer.

    7. Run 92+ octane gas when spraying.

    Recommended Items for nitrous:

    1. Fuel pressure gauge
    2. Nitrous pressure gauge (bottle mounted or in-car pod mounted)
    3. A good dyno tune to retard your timing and adjust A/F ratio
    4. For anything more than 85 dry shot upgrade the fuel pump to a 255lph
    5. Anything 125 and up get bigger injectors (dry shot)

With a wet kit you can just add a bigger fuel jet and not have to worry about a fuel pump or bigger injectors as much. Although a higher flowing pump is still for a good idea for a wet kit above 100 shot.

    Just my 2 cents.

Still do a search though, cuz that is just the basics. There is a TON of info on this board. Good luck on the project!

shodown pretty much summed everything up for you, but do a search. there are loads of different threads with peoples experiences with different kits and such.

im personally running a nitrous express wet kit.
      i have:
      TPP window switch
      WOT switch
      FPSS
      Bottle warmer (came with kit)
blowdown tube (should come with the kit, i bought it separately though)
nitrous pressure guage. i just have it mounted under the hood, but im getting one inside the car soon.
      NGK TR6's.

then i have supporting mods. headers, y-pipe, highflow cat, TSP rumbler catback, whisper lid, FRA mod, 180* thermo.

a window switch is not needed, just extra safety. Everything you are asking about is covered a ton of times already. Click that little search button at the top and get your reading glasses out because there is tons of info. ;)

a 20oz bottle will hold nothing and only be good for like 1-2 runs...do it right and get a 10lb bottle and put it where your spare tire is for a stealth setup

              QFT!

Dont waste $500-$600 on a mod that you can only use for 1-2 runs. You can hide a gigantic 15lb bottle in the spare tire area.

If I were you I'd plan on spending about $700

Used kit...$350-400 (with WOT switch and FPSS included)
              Used Bottle warmer...$90
              Bottle mounted n2o gauge...$35
              Window switch...$85
              Spark plugs...$13

Total...~$575-$625 then maybe another $25 for wire connectors and other misc. stuff.

It will cost you a lil more too if you want the kit to mount in the spare tire area too. I think they run about $50.

Just keep checking the For Sale section, there are used kits in there all the time. Also check out Ebay and LS1tech's For Sale section as well, someone is ALWAYS selling a kit on there for pretty cheap. Most kits are universal too, if you have a question whether or not the kit will work on your car, just post a link to it and we can let ya know if its a good buy or not.
