  • Window switch tach signal information

I did a search earlier today and found that hooking up a window switch is a PITA cuz finding the 'elusive white' tach signal wire isnt so easy. Some people tap into their gauge cluster wire or the 54 pin on the PCM, those are hard to get to and difficult to find.

BUT, if you take off your coil packs you will find a wire loom connected to the ICM, the solid white wire thats between the puple/white and black wire is a good tach signal wire. DO NOT use the solid white wire on the very end towards the passenger side, it will pull too much current and your car will have trouble starting.

Just thought I'd let ya'll know so you wouldnt have to go thru the same headache as I did trying to hook it up. :)

ALso you can take it off the cam sensor wire in front of the engine. I already had a wire coming off the pcm output for my shift light and it would draw too much power having the shift light and the window switch on and kill the car. So the I took mine off the cam sensor. pretty easy to get too.

I had to try 2 out of the 3 wires because they were so old and dirty I couldn't tell what the colors were. But finally go it to work.

Re: Window switch tach signal information

I have a Digital Window Switch, and there are 2 white wires comming off of my PCM. ive tried both and still cant get a signal (or so i think).
also in the programming manual for my switches, the tach set up has many diferent options to choose from (individual coil per cylinder(000), coil packs that fire in pairs(001), or number of cylinders(002-012). LS1 engines conecting to pcm use (004).
                please help!

i believe the brown and white wire coming off the icm is what i am tapped into, works great, just set your window switch to 1 cylinder

Re: Window switch tach signal information

what does the brown wire do? the white wire is the signal wire correct? then what is the significance of the brown wire?

SUCCESS!!!! I figured it out... there are 2 white wires comming off the back of my pulse coils... i piggy backed one of them and it started giving me an acurate reading after i set the switches to 6 cyl.... however the switch is about 200 rpm slower then the actual tach... but i think its livable!

good to hear you were able to get a signal finally. Maybe snap a pic of the wire if possible for others later on to see
