      Re: is it legal?

On a state level, here's what I've noticed that this tends to come down to:

      1. How does the state/county feel about street racing?
      2. How does the state/county define street racing?

When the connection is made that the nitrous in your vehicle is used for street racing, the full weight of the law comes down. People have seen jail time, confiscated vehicles, lofty fines and suspended licenses.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

          Re: is it legal?

i was hit this past summer in the quarter panel. I had my bottle mounted between the seats and the cops didn't care at all. One cop even started talking to me about his mustang and how he planned on putting a supercharger on it and stuff. This was in detroit as well so it wasn't no small town cop. I thought it was funny. However I dunno what the exact rules are about nitrous here in MI yet.

when you see the cop chasing you, arm your nitrous and empty the bottle.

i believe that it's legal to have it in your car but if you on the streets you can't have it hooked up.

just hide it and you'll be fine

a friend of mine took an old craftsman toolbox....locked the lid, welded the drawers shut, cut the bottom out of it and put it over the bottle. that way when the cops opened the trunk all they saw was a toolbox. as for under the hood, he had the nitrous hardlines plumbed into the intake runners. Ive never known of anyone here in Mississippi being hassled over having a bottle in the car.

Yeah, nobody will be hastled in southern Mississippi about having a bottle in their car, hooked up or not. I'm not sure if there is a law about not being allowed to have one or not, but if there is a law against it in MS then I would stay away from the bigger cities at the top of the state because they seem to be a little more serious that way.

As for your friend that made the cover with the toolbox, let him know the welding and all that was unnecessary. A cop isn't allowed to search anything in your car if it's locked, unless he has a warrant to search your vehicle in hand. That goes for all of the United States, so remember, if your glove box locks, keep it locked, if your console locks, keep it locked. That way if you get pulled over and you do have something in there you shouldn't, then they can't search it until they come back and find you a day later upon getting a search warrant.

Also, if you ever get pulled over and the cops are known to search vehicles like they are down here in the Pearl River county area right now, do this and watch how pissed you can make a cop.......

Upon getting pulled over, roll up the windows, open your door, lock the doors, step out and shut your door and throw the keys on the roof of the car. Whenever the cop gets up to you and starts talking to you, if he asks , "Do you mind if I search your vehicle?" Look at your keys on the roof and reply, "Do whatever you want." The cop will probably try to open the car door, once he realizes it's locked he will be very pissed and aggrivated and then do whatever it is that he pulled you over for and leave abruptly. Just make sure that you say "Do whatever you want" or something along those lines, just don't say "Yes" because then he has the right to grab those keys and unlock your vehicle and any other part he wishes to search what he can. Also, I know we have hatchbacks so they can search them from the backseat, but if you have a vehicle that has a trunk and has a lever next to seat to open it, install a lock on that thing as well if one isn't already there. Because, any lever that they can pull to open something is considered not locked and therefore they can search it without needing a warrant if you gave them permission to search your vehicle.

I hope everyone has learned a little something from this, and if you are ever carrying something that is illegal or could get you into trouble, now you know how to get away with it. Just make sure that it's out of there in the next couple of hours, because if the cop had strong suspicions that you were hiding something I gurantee he is back at headquarters talking to the Captain about getting a search warrant a few minutes after he drives off from where he pulled you over.
