I've always wondered. How do you spray off the line without killing the car?

Re: Spraying off the line
I am gonna take a wild stab at this one and say that possibly the reason that happens is becuase off the line there isnt a great deal of inlet air as opposed to a rolling WOT. If there isnt much air, there isnt much combustion......so if Nitrous is allowed to build up and not burn off then possibly BOOM! am I crazy or can anyone confirm something that I just made up off the top of my head?

I didnt know what you were asking by "killing the car". You dont engage the nirtrous until your foot is all the way to the floor.sigpic

Re: Spraying off the line
I've read that cylinder pressure can get out of hand when spraying at low RPM. Consider that at 2,000 RPM you have three times the amount of nitrous crammed into your poor little cylinders than at 6,000 RPM - given a constant flow of nitrous. No big deal, right? We like that low end torque that pushes you back into the seat...
If your engine tells you its ok to go on spraying a 100 shot at 2,500 RPM, it won't mind you spraying a 200 shot at 5,000 RPM (provided that you can get enough fuel in there). Progressive controllers are good for this and traction reasons. If I even get the LSx car I asked Santa for, I'll chisel my teeth out for a direct port nitrous setup and progressive controller from the tooth fairy.

Re: Spraying off the line
Yeah, progressive controllers are awesome. They allow you to spray bigger shots without as much harm to the motor since it gradually releases the nitrous over a period of time or RPM, this is known as 'ramping'.
I still wouldnt spray below 3000 RPM though. I have my window switch (set at 3000-6000) and WOT switch that will be wired into my progressive controller I got from Dyno Tune. I'll intsall it next weekend :naughty:sigpic

Re: Spraying off the line
UDLOSE98 is right to a point, its not the nitrous that builds up its the added fuel of a wet system that puddles and causes problems at low RPM. Ask me how I know...:o
To the original poster, many people dont like to spray off the line due to traction issues or stress on the rearend. Thus many people use a 1st gear lock-out so it wont spray until second gear, after they have successfully launched the car or they use a progressive controller. Spraying off the line usually isnt as much of an issue for the motor as it is the drive train. This isnt too much of a problem for v6 guys as it is for v8 guys cuz they are putting way more power to the ground than our v6's are.sigpic
