  • What setup would I need?

I was going to ask this in Appearance, but since it involves nitrous setup, I thought I would ask it here.

How basic of a setup would I need (and can you list specifics, so that I can look into them) to be able to just shoot the nitrous from where the holes are at on my hood where the windshield sprayers once were?

I think it's an awesom little mod when you pull up to someone and they spray it out of their hood scoops, or fenderwells, just anywhere looks cool.

please don't pose. Doing so would make you a ricer unless you are actually going to use the nitrous to go faster and not for looks

I won't pose then. Because I would never use nitrous to go faster. When the time is right and there is nothing else I can do to my bird to make it go faster, I'm going with a turbo.

I just think nitrous tears the engine up to much to worry with it. I could be wrong however, but every vehicle I have seen nitrous put in, the engine eventually blows up after a little while.

any engine WITHOUT nitrous in it blows up after awhile. But yea don't get a kit just to pose and then loose a race to a kid who will go and tell his friends he beat a nitroused fbody...see where I am going with this?

I see exactly where you are going with this.....But do not fret, the people here in southern Mississippi (well, the ricers that is) don't have huge heads like ricers across America. None of them will go heads up against a domestic vehicle for some reason.

Actually I think I know exactly why that is now that I think about it. Because, they get mommy and daddy to buy them an import then they throw a magnaflow muffler and tip on it and get a K&N air intake from Autozone (they sometimes opt out for what they call "The Good Stuff" and get the AEM) and say they have a 10 second car to all the girls that hang out with the racers but when asked by a nother racer it's "My car is still under construction" yet they never add anything else to it.

I've got to do a lot of research on turbo's and what not. I've always wanted one ever since my mom had a granny car that came stock with twin turbo's. I want one, I have no clue about them, how they work, what you need for them to work properly.......etc......

Funny story, I saw a ricer tonight that had an innercooler so I was waiting for him to start up his ride to hear for the turbo but after an hour of chilling in the parking lot, I assumed he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. So, I stroll casually up to the asian kid with the spiked hair and said, "I noticed you have an innercooler, do you have a turbo to go with that?" His reply, "No, I would never put a turbo on this car, I just have the innercooler because it looks cool and it's like ram air multiplied by 5" I kind of just smiled and said, oh cool, and walked off.

you waited in a parking lot for one hour to hear him start his car?
how is his poser inTercooler setup more ridiculous than your proposed poser nitrous setup?

they sell the purge kits on ebay. you basically have the whole nitrous setup without a jet and line into the manifold. you get to wire and plumb the whole kit... then you do your dramatic purge... and when you have won the hearts of your esteemed ricers, they will flock to your ride just like in the movies... and when they ask you what shot you are running, or when they ask you to pop the hood... they will smile, say "oh cool" and walk away

there's a good one for you. it comes with a 1.25lb bottle. you can put co2 in it instead and your esteemed ricers will be none the wiser (unless they see you refilling at the paintball store). this one is as cheap as you will find them.

check out the reviews on dyno tune's website (LOL!!)

Nitrous gets a really bad name cuz so many people are careless, cheap or lazy with it. They either dont do the right supporting mods, run a shot too big for the application or install it wrong then blow the motor and immediately blame it on the nitrous. When I blew my intake I knew it was my fault for not using a window switch (which i have now :) ), but I dont blame the nitrous for it.

Oh yeah, if you are going to use nitrous just for the purge, might as well put Type R stickers on it too.

Re: What setup would I need?

Yall guys have convinced me my next mod will definitely be nitrous I will be buying the nos 5175 kit off summitt racing. This is gonna be a big step for me and I can't wait to see how the added power is gonna feel but I will be taking every last safety precaution thats possible so yall please be ready to answer a lot of questions but these will mostly be safety questions.

I WAS WONDERING IS IT SAFE TO RUN NITROUS WITH A SUPERCHARGER AND A CAM. I know theres way more into that but horsepower is very addictive and after adding the nitrous I may want the power all the time or should I just stick with nitrous forever. Before attempting this I would be doing a little at a time but I don't hear about too many people with both nitrous and a supercharger on there car.

The nitrous kit I will be definietly getting but Im just wondering should I just stick with that forever since it will not be used all the time and it could help me keep my motor running strong because the supercharger gives you constant power and who knows how long before the motor would blow advice please

Re: What setup would I need?

This will answer most of the basic questions about nitrous first of all, this is a copy/paste I give to everyone new to the nitrous game:

                        Supporting mods MUST BE DONE:

                        1. Cat-back exhaust
                        2. Cold air intake
                        3. TR6 spark plugs gapped at .035

Now that the motor is breathing...

NOS 5175 kit is highly regarded and recommended by most people on this site and it can be easily upgraded to a wet kit. I converted my 5175 to a wet kit and absoluetely love it.

                        http://store.summitracing.com/partde...au toview=sku

                        4. Get a window switch. This enables the nitrous to spray within a certain rpm range. Always a good safety feature. I blew up my intake cuz I didnt use a window switch, they are worth every penny.

                        5. Get a Fuel Pressure Safety Switch (FPSS) Very important. Most kits come with them.

                        6. Get a bottle warmer.

                        7. Run 92+ octane gas when spraying.

                        Recommended Items for nitrous:

                        1. Fuel pressure gauge
                        2. Nitrous pressure gauge (bottle mounted or in-car pod mounted)
                        3. A good dyno tune to retard your timing and adjust A/F ratio
                        4. For anything more than 85 dry shot upgrade the fuel pump to a 255lph
                        5. 125 dry shot and you'll need bigger injectors

With a wet kit you can just add a bigger fuel jet and not have to worry about a fuel pump or bigger injectors as much. Although a higher flowing pump is still for a good idea for a wet kit above 100 shot. 6. Anything more than 125 shot (wet or dry) and you are really stressing the stock bottom end, after that get forged internals.

As for a sc and cam, well thats a different ball game now. You will definately need a tune via HP Tuners and depending on what size nitrous shot and how much boost you want, the bottom end may not take it very well. If you run low boost such as 6 psi and a small shot of spray like 50 shot you should be okay, but I wouldnt do much more than that especially if its your DD.

thanks for the advice so in about a week or 2 I will be joining the darkside and purchasing my nos 5175 nitrous kit but ain't no telling how long it will be before I hook it up because like you say I wanna be on the safe side and I plan on keeping my first car forever so I will be taking all the safety precautions. Where can I find all these safety features that everyone talks about or does it come with the kit

I got most of my stuff either from members on here or from Summit. I dont advise buying brand new NOS stuff from Summit though, its pretty expensive. If I didnt get my used NOS stuff I would have ordered from www.dynotunenitrous.com or www.harrisspeedworks.com. Both of those companies sell very good products for very good prices and have wonderful customer service. You could try Ebay too.
