  • Blow off tube?

I was looking on LS1tech at the pictures of where people mounted their bottles. Many people mention a blow off tube so in case of the nitrous bottle pressure getting too high it vents the nitrous into the atmosphere. Do you guys have such a thing? Is it necessary? Do you need it for the track?

Its the blue thing coming out of the side and down thru the floor. They are required if you are going to race at any NHRA drag strip. You wont pass tech inspection without one. They are not expensive, mine cost me $25.

yea I have one as well. You need it for any track racing as a safety item. I have mine vented under the back seats through the drain hole since I have my bottle between the back seats on the hump

yeah, as everyone else said, its mandatory at tracks.
i couldnt find an nx BDT, so i had to get a NOS one and buy an adapter for it, but if you can find the right tube it ends up just being like $20-$25.

reminds me of something i thought up while thinking of ways to market to the poser crowd...

your nitrous purge (fake or real nitrous system) vents through a blow-off valve

So how does it work? Is there a pressure activated valve that opens when there is too much bottle pressure?

If the pressure reaches > 3000 psi the burst disc blows and the nitrous escapes thru the tube and outside the car instead of in the car endangering the driver. Its a safety thing. Its violent and loud as hell when it blows. Burst discs are only like $4 and very simple to replace.

A blown down tube wont save car from blowing up. If the burst disc blows and you dont have a blown down tube, the nitrous just blows all over the place, it wouldnt destroy the whole car. The blow down tube just protects the driver from frost bite and eye irritation.

If a car blew up from a nitrous bottle explosion, a blow down tube wouldnt have done anyhing.

actually it would, the car was some import and the bottle heater was left on, it didnt have a burst disc or something malfunctioned and the bottled poped and seriously altered the car.

my friend left the bottle heater on in his eclipse and i caught a picture of it exploding on my camera phone.

i think the asians on crotch rockets shooting at it had something to do with it also..

There is no way it didnt have a burst disc unless whoever it was WELDED it shut. I could understand that something malfunctioned causing the tank to get over pressurized and explode, but a blow down tube would not do a damn thing to protect the driver or the car in that case.

I have seen the pics from the car you are talking about, it was an older Nissan Maxima. All the tube does is redirect the nitrous out of the car if the burst disc pops, if the bottle exlplodes, the blow down tube will be useless. It was something much worse than the burst disc on that Maxima.
