  • What setup?

I have been bouncing around two setups and can’t sway my decision one way or another. I would like to know aprox times 1/4 that I could do and what electrical problems Ill run into because of IL emissions? Currently the set up has the FIPK, flowmaster catback, one piece driveshaft, and I have waiting either a lsd with the current 3.23 or a 4.10. I also have boxed LCA's waiting just in case I need them.

    Setup up 1:

    99 3.8 t5
lsd 3.23, ls1 DS, flomaster catback, FIPK, 75 NOS with either street radials or DR?

    99 3.8 t5
lsd 4.10, ls1 DS, flowmaster catback, FIPK, DR

I had headers on my 97 how much are they really worth times wise for my current set up? I don’t plan on a cam or head work. From the time slip page, It looks like if I get the 4.10 in I should see anywhere from 14.5-14.9. With the addition of NOS the times are all over the place from high 12s to mid 14's. Any suggestions?

    Re: What setup?

Your first set up will be faster, probably somewhere in the low 14's-high 13's with DR's. You wont need ET streets, DR's will be good enough. Second set up high 14's. Drag racing with a 5 speed is all about driving skills too.

I dont know of any electrical problems that would have any implications on your emmisstions though.

Headers arent a necessity, but they will make the nitrous gain much more efficient.

Why dont you just do set up 1 with 4.10's? Then youd probably be good for low 13's. :D

BTW, its NITROUS, not NOS. NOS is a brand name ;)

thanks for the advice shodown. I just read your webpage and am wondering what tuning you have for your modifications? does the 160 thermo set of the mil light? I see you did a 13.6, thats awesome.

In your 97 it won't set off a code. I should know, lol, got one in mine

No problem man. I didnt throw any codes with the 160 thermo. My car has been tuned via HP Tuners.

I havent run a 13.6 yet :( Thats my goal, hopefully this spring I'll get it :D

                  Re: What setup?

A 75 shot would be fun...you wouldnt regret going that route.

                  On a 75 crank shot I ran a 13.1....for what thats worth ;)

It's all about the proper mods and getting it all worked out properly and having the proper fueling to get you down the track.

He has a nice cam, few valve train upgrades, 3500 stall, DR's, intake, cat-back exhaust, few rear suspension upgrades, 75 wet shot and a mild tune. He might have headers but I am not sure.

                        Re: What setup?

Well, nitrous will not affect emissions testing.... because you don't use nitrous (hopefully) when you are testing the emissions system.

If you are seeking a decent set up for 1/4.... read up in the drag racing section.

There is a lot of good stuff there.

As for electrical problems..... if the connections for all the wiring on you nitrous system are poor... then you will have nitrous problems.... if they are good, then you shouldn't have to worry.
