Okay here is the deal I was gonna add another cutout to my exhaust but I took it to the exhaust shop and they told me it would be pointless.

So I asked them what about me adding a three inch converter and he said it wasn't a problem. I told him that I was gonna run nitrous on my car then he said the cat wouldn't last long.

But he told me if I wanted that he could do a cat delete and replace it with straight pipe but I would have to get a 02 sim.

Is this true and would it be a good idea to delete the cat for nitrous running ability give me some insight nitrous people

If you can do a cat delete, do it. But I have a Catco 3 inch in/out cat and have run many bottles thru my car with 0 problems. I have no idea why nitrous would hurt your cat though

Ok it all depends on what the regulatons are in your area. my problem is that i am going back to cali in about a year so i am going with a high performance cat. if you do go with a cat don't worry about it, with a good performance cat (i wouldn't trust a stock cat, if you have high mileage or it is old) magnaflow, or flowmaster man you don't have a thing to worry about. if your car doesn't get checked for one or don't get smoged go with the cut out and some 3'' pipe and you are more than in business. good luck.

Nitrous + cat = no problems

It would be wise to have a high flow cat because when you spray there will be lots of air flowing out of that exhaust system.

Local people have advised me to do the striaght pipe mod for nitrous perf..... I have been tossing the idea around and I will keep people updated.

          Re: need nitrous advice

your car's PCM contains mechanisms to estimate the catalytic converter temperature and provide additional fuel enrichment to decrease exhaust oxygen content if over temperature conditions are detected.

basically, if your car thinks cat temps are getting a little high, it dumps fuel to cool down the cat down.

as you know, high enough cat temps will melt the cat and this could cause the cat to morph into a sweet looking blob (doesn't flow well) or shatter with fragments coming out of your exhast (easiest way to gut your catalytic converter!).

i would think that running nitrous would result in higher catalytic converter temperatures only because i would assume that the exhaust gasses are hotter than usual. but at the same time, the car will dump fuel to cool them down.

i've run a couple of bottles through my motor with the cat converter protection turned off and i have not noticed any problems - assuming that exhast leak near my exhaust manifold is not related...

Yes, delete the cat if possible, but if your state has an emissions test, your car wont pass. If they dont have any emissions testing then you'll be fine.

Replace it with a 3 inch pipe.

I dont know about the Z28 tips, I have 2.75 inch Magnaflow tips so I dont know where to find cheap Z28 ones. Check out the Intake/Exhaust section for that info.

Some states... if you have no cat... and you are caught... it is a HUGE fine!

I run a 3 inch in and out high flow cat.

                  Re: need nitrous advice

I just got my car inspected and it passed the guy I been taking my car to does not hook up anything to my tailpipe.
He just hooks it up to the computer in my car and lets it run a while I think I will need a sim or something like that because the car is supposed to throw a code if I remember correctly
