  • Whats the stock hortblock good for?

Just what it says...I plan to run a wet kit..currently rebuilding motor, nothin special...ARP Pro Series connecting rod bolts, speed pro lifters, stock camshaft, ported heads, lower and upper intake and throttle body.

What can you run on this? FYI if people are doing it without blowing up the motor I would slap on a 200 shot. I feel that the majority of blown motors with nitrous is due to lack of fuel, neglect of basic tuneup and poor tuning...probably too much timing and/or bad gas, or too low of octane rating. (AKA some dipsh!t slapping on a 150 shot on a tired motor with old *** spark plugs, running 87 octane, with no fuel upgrade likefuel pump etc WITH a hypertech tuner would be a perfect example lol..)

Basically what I want to know is who here has had the balls to run a 150-200 wet shot on a stock rebuilt shortblock with good tuning and has lasted...or tell me your horror stories :P

Im down to see if it will hold :P

    Thanks guys

Oh and if youve only changed the pistons to forged pistons lemme know what you're running too may as well...I might be interested in that.

Oh and I have lots of experience with HPTuners so the tuning isnt a problem

If you want to run lots of nitrous I suggest doing a 2 stage system....dry shot on the low end and a wet shot on the top end with a window switch. But do it a little bit at a time and step up gradually, tuning it as you go.

Our intakes are very prone to nitrous backfires with big shots from wet kits. I would do a 2 stage (75 dry + 75 wet) shot if I didnt have a turbo.

yea you don't want to go over 125 wet really. Backfires happen then. My setup is two stages of dry for a total of 150-200 shot depending on the jets I use at the time

With mine when I get the wet shot back on I'm going to run a 125 wet then try a 150 wet. I know some say it will puddle and have a back fire but I think each car is different. I have P/P upper lower intakes, TB , VS cam,Comp 105lb springs, steel moddded retainers,Comp pushrods , Diamond 9:5.1 forged pistons , total seal piston rings , RK sport headers, 3" exhaust, Hptunes, 36lb injectors, PLX wideband ETC. So I'll see what mine will do once I fix a few minor problems here and there, and get my paint job done. But I think there were some people running 150 wet shots that didn't have problems.

I use HPTuners...what did you do for the initial tune? I mean what did you put like a 50 dry then tune it, then 75 dry, tune it and so forth or how did you get it tuned for such a large shot dry? What injectors are you running?

So you run the nitrous tune all the time or is it a track only car or what...?

What Im trying to get at is I would like the car to be daily drivable without having to switch tunes when I want to spray....is this possible?

That is why I was talkin about a wet shot...

How does the car run with a nitrous tune for the 150-200 shot when you arent spraying?

            Thanks

Re: Whats the stock hortblock good for?

start out small with a 50 shot and work your way up.

I have a totally different setup than a normal 3.8 car as I have a LS1 MAF and a completely different intake setup.

Hint though, tune the car for the best NA tune....then think about your IAT sensor and the table it uses...you will soon see how you can run your car with two tunes in one. ;)

I was thinking about that for a long time...I havent done a tune on it yet but I was planning on messing with the IAT sensor and maybe seeing if I can mimic the signal it sends to adjust timing on the fly.

Thanks for the reminder I forgot all about that!

Oh and you have a thread about your custom intake setup? what kindof power did you gain or did you do all your mods at once and dont know?

If your intake setup is the one in your avatar pic then...Lol you have me curious imma search your threads you posted

australia, Holden is GM's name/branch for down under.

timing is different for each car. so going off what I do does not apply to you as my car is a full race built engine and one off items.

Hence why you start with a 50 shot and see how it goes and move up as you go. adding/retarding timing as needed

lol duh forgot yours is modded when I typed that :P

Hey it is my understanding that you want to add more fuel when spraying nitrous....you just tune yours for the nitrous and run it like that when you arent spraying? Meaning you run rich when not spraying?

Whats the optimum AFR for spraying nitrous? its about 13.0 for N/A...

I have my tune optimized for NA running. The nitrous tune is built into the tune. When the MAF reads the dry shot going over it, it adds the needed fuel.

I have 42.5# injectors for my setup with a walbro fuel pump and adj. fpr
