This whole time I've been trying to wrap my mind around how the MAF can sense the nitrous. I always assumed(incorrectly) that the MAF measured velocity only and never really took the time to read up and understand how it really works.
I have been reading and DUH! Im an idiot!
The MAF operates like this:
It has a metal filament which is heated and as air is run across it it is cooled and the resistance increases/decreases from one end to the other based on the temperature of the filament and is output as a frequency in Hz to the PCM.
So if the nitrous is run across it it cools it and it outputs a higher frequency.
So yeah I feel like a dumbass.
Well I guess that mystery is solved for me. I cant believe how simple that is. :spank:
Like I said I have always done NA tunes so I never really took the time to know how it works before...tune the VE, timing etc in SD then tune the MAF. Always worked for me.
Even the bottle pressure isnt an issue with a dry setup because as the bottle pressure decreases so does the nitrous being sprayed, so the MAF filament isnt cooled as much. Although with a wet system it will run richer and richer as bottle pressure decreases because the jets have a preset amount of fuel they add of course.
Wow I always assumed that if you sprayed then the MAF didnt pick it up. I thought it simply measured the velocity of the air coming in. So um yeah, I feel dumb, but smarter because of my discovery of my dumbness. :p
