  • Car runs really lean at idle

When the car is idling the afr is going crazy. It goes from 14 to over 17 afr where my wideband can't read it anymore. Under load at WOT it has a afr of 12.4 all the way through but as soon as I let off sometimes the car would shut off. Even when I took off the car felt like it was sputtering aswell. The turbo is not connected to the intake yet.

I would scale your injectors down alittle bit so your idle is in the 14's-15's. Also check for ehxaust leak. As for the car dying and having problems, I would check for a bad injector somewhere. Mine did thesame thing for a year until I finally found out the injector was bad, short story had the engine rebuilt and they put the bad inector in #1 cly. and it wouldn't start, replaced the injector and fired right up. Good luck.

I noticed black sut from the passenger side header. So I'm going to fix that tomorrow. Also the car jerks a little at low Rpms but after about 2800 or so it smooths out.

Mine if I was going through th bank drive though I would sit and idle for 20-30 mins then I would gun it out to the exsit and it would die, then I would start it back up again. Pissed me off I changed all my coils, plugs, wires, ICM , Maf, TPS, IAC and it turned out to be a bad injector, the OHM test good butit still didn't work, was really weid, but I'm glad they found it. This was when I was running the Power dyne back then with a FMU and a TRC1, HPtuners didn't come out yet. See if the exhaust leak helps and you could always OHM test your injector just incase.

Well I have some injectors from a supercharged Riviera so I guess that would be an upgrade but what ohm should the injectors be?

They should be 11 to 20 ohms, my 36lB (33 LBS really) injectors were around 14-17 ohms, when I checked them before installing, I put the highest ohm injector in the #1 cyl. I still need to install my new 65lB injectors from ZZP, which they are 60LBs on our cars. Before I installed the 33LB injectors I let them sit over night in injector cleaner and seafoam. I got them from ED Morrad so I knew they worked I just want to clean them before installing.

Re: Car runs really lean at idle

I let the car run for 5 minutes but the car didn't turn off or sputter it use to sputter and turn off. And I ran it but it kind of jerks at low rpms like I said before.

Re: Car runs really lean at idle

I don't know if a exhaust leak would do that maybe running lean might or your tranny tables are messed up if a auto.

Manual trans. Plus I ended up getting a whole bunch of dtc codes so I'm going scan it again tomorrow and check what can be causing the car to jerk at low rpms.

Also I tweaked around with some afr settings and now I'm getting 14 to 15 at idle I still need to fix the exhaust leak tomorrow. But the car is still jerking at the lower rpms so I still have to check the codes its throwing.

I would check your injectors, mine would throw a PO300 sometimes, damm thing wouldn't throw what injector was bad on mine which sucked, I'm glad they found it though, it was locked up or something like that, but when they tore mine apart at 122,000 they said it looked great for that many miles, this was a manual car back then with 2 years with the powerdyne on it. 14-15 at idle is fine esp. with TR6's what is it at without the turbo and with the turbo at WOT?

I haven't connected the turbo yet at all but at WOT it's at around the area of 12.

Re: Car runs really lean at idle

Thats really rich for N/A, cammed is about 12.5 and N/A is around 13.0. That might be a problem just too much fuel.

I'm going to get the intercooler piping tomorrow and then I'm going to see what is the afr after I route all the turbo piping

With the turbo I would go for 11.5 A/F should be a great A/F. Some try to get some extra WRHP at the dyno by leaning it out to 12.0 but they are putting their engine in danger of blowing it up. Usually the richer the more TQ and leaner more HP.
