That is not correct. There is a list of all compatible PCM's by PCM number, year and model vehicle. I think Monte Carlo and Corsica PCM's work as straight plug-in's. There are many different GM vehicles you can get a PCM from to replace the one in your car, especially if you have an automatic. If you have a manual, you may have to "tune" it to bypass some codes thrown by not having the automatic wire harness connected.

I was reading a site a week or so ago that had the entire compatibility list. Now I can't find the link and I need to pick up a cheap PCM to use while the PCM in my Firebird is mailed out for tuning.

If anyone else knows the site I am speaking of, please post the link.

yea ok. good luck trying to tune a 97 car with a 99 pcm. Also might want to learn how to repin while your at it. A 97 car is going to need a 97 pcm

          Re: what interchanges

Actually, there was someone else right on this site that did just that. Plug and play, not even from a Camaro into a Camaro.

Read this thread all about swapping PCM's:

          http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=63721

Here is the link to the list of GM vehicles that use the J2543 standard. There is a good chance that PCM's are swappable between these cars with the same motors.

            Re: what interchanges

that thread you linked talks about 3.4 and 3.1 computers, then someone lists the other years and everything under 1997 is 97 cars.

The pinouts are different when you go to newer years. You can't use a 2000 pcm in a 97 car without repinning it.

Not sure what the big deal is though, 97 pcms can be found easily. The next question would be does the OP have HPTuners?

Yeah, it would just make sense to keep with the same year. Especially with the pin differences. Just want to OP to know he has options other than getting a PCM from another Camaro or Firebird.
