    Re: EGT's and tunning

bumping this thread as I am revisiting this once again...I am still unsure if this http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/tc_4.php can be hooked into hp tuners? Or how would I go about logging this with there software and comparing it to my hp tuners scans (for like WOT runs etc) so that I can utilize the data...I figure I probably don't really need the gauges if I can see it all on the laptop...

You would have to use one of Innovate's logging systems with those like the LM1 or LM2. The LM2 also records OBDII data like HPT does. HPT doesn't have enough inputs to log all 6 EGT sensors. You could log 4 EGT's with the pro version of HPT.

I thought I counted 8 slots on the EIO? 1 ground, and 1 for the wideband...so the other 6 for the egt's ground them all to the 1 common ground?

If not, Hp tuners is really starting to p*ss me off...

Look in the scanner software.....only 4 programmable inputs there, and that includes the one your using for the wide band. There are also 2 programmable outputs.

            Re: EGT's and tunning

so basically my best bet is to go with 2 of those innovate things and read the data off of logworks and extrapolate what I need into hp tuners?

                Re: EGT's and tunning

if I got this amplifier, when I hook up an EGT to one of the slots + and -....can I hook up a gauge to that same + line to get the signal for that probe and be able to read the temp in dash on the car? I realize that I may have to get an inline 0-5v converter, but can I split it so that that same probe sends info to the amplifier and the gauge?

                  Re: EGT's and tunning

You would have to look at how the gauge would read the EGT probe. It may or may not hook directly to the probe.

                    Re: EGT's and tunning

upon looking at the gauge I bought locally tonight, it looks like it has an additional wire to hook into the EIO output.

                    New question:

Has anyone attempted individual cylinder tuning on here? from what I have been reading it is supposedly good for up to 50hp on a small block v8.

Putting it into perspective from what I have gathered so far though, we got 6 cylinders, if you can squeeze 3-4 hp out of each cylinder, that equates to 18-24hp...depending on how bad your current tune is, and how the intake manifold among other things flow, I don't think getting 3-4 hp from each cylinder is ridiculous or unattainable by any means.

now, back to the point at hand, I know I can use EGT's for individual cylinder tuning, but can someone help me out a little bit with the EGT's...what should a N/A car ideally be sitting at temperature wise at WOT and at cruise...or is this "ideal" number vehicle specific?

Not to sound like an ***, but why don't you gather the base data yourself? Being as to do so, would mean your already setup for tuning later.

But I don't know your current setup lol. :)

don't fully understand egt's themselves, and exactly how to use them...I understand tuning basics...kinda hard/dumb to go out and start using the egt data randomly and hoping for results...thats how you damage things...if I have an idea of what I should be looking for and how to use them properly it would help me gather my data safer.

Alot of people actually dont know how to use these for tuning...they look at it only as a tool to tell them if they are running too hot and thinking they are going to burn up a valve...this is not how you use these...back before widebands EGT's were how cars were tuned along with looking at spark plugs...

                          Re: EGT's and tunning

Ah yea, I see. But what I was meaning was taking what you can now, with a stock computer tune, to get a basic data reading. Then, compare it to other data (which you asked for) then use it to tune later. That way not only do you have other peoples data, but you also have your engine's original tune data with YOUR current mods.

I wouldnt think you would have to hook up and have actually have it doing anything besides giving you a reading, completely independent of the other computer systems. But I dont know how this works entirely either, I want to, and I plan to, but thats a work in progress lol.

I want to know how to read it effectively.

Im going to be running 6 of them...so lets say cylinders 1-3-5 all ready around 1000F, and 2-4-6 read 700F what would that mean? I know it means 3 of the cylinders are either lean or rich, but which ones? and how could I tell which is lean/rich?...Im thinking I may have to pick up an additinal wideband sensor and have a wideband sensor in each header going into the Y pipe...
