  • Best tunner besides HP tunners

I don't want to invest about 500 or more in HPtuners, and also I am not patient to work with tables on the computer, and asking for codes and numbers every time. Also I want basic tunning such as fuel, transmission shifts, etc. But at the same time I want a tunner that takes advantage of the mods I have: CAI, headers and aftermarket muffler and high flow cat, 160 thermostat, and maybe something else that I don't remember. I don't like the alternative of tunning through mail, since that's the only car I have to move. So, what's the tunner that offers the best for the buck.

lol, only one is hptuners so you are SOL. So either have it dynotuned locally or buck up and get hptuners or mail order tune. :)

Some years of 3.8 cars (newer years) have a hypertech available but those things are pieces of junk and don't give you anything for gains and I would NOT recommend them.

Is it possible to tune with someone who has HPT in the area?

yea you could have someone in your area do it, just would have to pay $100 for the 2 credits to tune your car unless they have your years totally unlocked already. Being in Texas you should be able to find someone fairly easy as a lot of v6 guys are running around Texas

I have unlimited tunning for 97' PCM's, but if you find a shop to flash it everytime you'll wind up spending $600 plus over the years unless your not going to keep it for more than 3 years.

How quickly everyone forgets about the Maft Translaters!! That is another option to tune your A/F and Timing. Thats what I used because HP tuners was not available for my car at the time and I still use it on my 02 WS6. They can be bought for 50-75 dollars if you can find them.. Very simple to use. Just plug it into your maft and with a few turns of a nob you can tune your A/F ratio and Timing both at WOT and at normal driving.

There really isnt a point to tune your car yet with a expensive tune. I would wait until I do a major mod like Cam or turbo before I would drop the money it would take to fully tune your car!!

yea but the OP wants to tune his trans as well, not just timing and a/f ratio. So the MAFT won't work for all that he is after, hence hptuners is needed one way or the other

theres DHP Pwrtuners but its discontinued and theres not much support. Although i bet you could find one floating around somewhere. Kinda Rare to see though

I understand that but when people say there is only 1 way to tune your car that is wrong!!
