Re: swapping in a different PCM?

dont they use the same sensors? so isn't it just directly moving the pins over to the new pcm?

not the same sensors/plugs for everything. Like for my ls1 maf with the built in IAT sensor I have a new plug adaptor that plugs into my harness and converts to the ls1/iat sensor plug. The wiring at the PCM might be seperated though so it might not matter

Re: swapping in a different PCM?

I see...well, if I am able to run both pcms simultaneously, maybe I'll get lucky with most connections and be able to leave the pins that aren't 100% compatible with the 4.3l in the 3800 pcm.

Actually I really just want to do this so I can SD tune...so really if I am able to just swap the necessary sensors from a 4.3L over to our car, and piggy back the 4.3l pcm enough to get access to the tables necessary....thats all I really need...

IM a little lost at this point as to what you're wanting to control that HPT doesn't have on it....

MAP tuning (or what they call speed density tuning)...we don't have the additional open loop/ve tables for it, so you kind of have to cheat to do it.

So far I have cheated by commanding more fuel in PE mode, AND I've set my injectors to 31 # instead of 32-33 where they should be (so that they pulse faster) as I am leaning out under WOT in the upper rpm band. I plug in my afr error % into the VE table, but the maximum number we can input into the table is 200% and I have maxed this number already in all the WOT (100Kpa) cells.

I believe that the 4.3L has alot more tables then we do, and is capable of speed density tuning (I think).

Since in the upcoming next few months I will no longer be able to run a maf, I absolutly 100% need to tune via the MAP, so I am trying to find solutions that do not involve spending ridiculous amounts of money on a standalone, especially since I have already invested in hp tuners...

for radical builds hptuners still lacks needed tables for our 3.8 cars. Hptuners is fine for 90% of the 3.8 crowd, but those that have one off setups or big turbo builds need more. Band-aids have got people by so far, but there has to be a way to unlock more

hp tuners has no idea of the interchangability however the guy said that the 4.3 is Exactly the same as an LS1 pcm...they even have the same operating system

                  interesting...

now for the pinouts of each...

which 4.3 is the same? Like what kind of vehicle and year

Re: swapping in a different PCM?

I know what you wanna do, I had the same thing. this is what I would do, however dont know if its doable, and i dont know if its worth the hassle.

the ls1 pcm drives individual coils, you could set your system to have ls1 coils and screw the ICM board, however I dont know if you can tell it that not to fire 7 & 8.

best bet would be a stand alone and piggy back it on. OR an LS1 AEM EMS, and you can do alot with that, but still repinning everything, and still swapping out to 6 coils.

in the long run. its gonna be alot of work and money.

Not sure, I will fire off another email to Hp's support now.

See I'm curious that you can make a stand alone piggy back on our pcms, but how about making the 4.3L piggy back on our pcms instead? I mean if it works it is far cheaper?...I don't want to go standalone because it costs more then I want to spend at the moment, especially if I can get away with being able to piggy back a 4.3 pcm...

How do you piggy back a standalone on our pcms?

this is why I am far more trusting towards a standalone system when doing a high power/expensive build. I don't think its worth cheating if you have to grossly overdo it just to compensate for a limited amount of variables.

pretty much you run what ever sensors you need into the stand alone and have the stock pcm control trans, and your gauges. everything else stand alone. well since I am unaware of a standalone that will work with our ICM board you can have the stock pcm fire that as well. as far as fuel/ injectors and other boost sensors goto the standalone.

                          simple terms

(stock PCM)----- {stand alone}-------- fuel injectors------- pressure sensor

                          (stock PCM)------- trans

                          (stock PCM)-------- gauges

                          (TUNED stock PCM)--------- ICM board-----coils

now this is just a simple one and I may have forgotten something.

come to think about it a Gready E-manage with a boost sensor might help you.... maybe

but hp tuners + an E-manage= 900ish maybe

a new AEM 30-1040 Engine Management System is as low as 1000.

Ok, I don't quite understand (maybe because I haven't looked at the actual installation of a standalone) but can what you just explained above not be done with another seperate pcm out of another car rather then a standalone?

How are you going to tune both pcms through one OBDII port?
