It's only worth making a sticky if it can work out right? lol

How are you going to tune both pcms through one OBDII port?
well see this is what I was thinking about.

    A) if you piggy back a standalone, how do you tune your original pcm to control the transmission and such, and then control the standalone? Do you add an additional port?

    OR

    B) when you hook up the additional pcm, you splice the data link wire and the constant power wire (along with anything else that is required for the obd2 port to obtain data) to go to both pcms, so then theoretically the one OBD2 port should be recieving both sets of data now?

I dunno, I'm just putting out what I am thinking, feel free to point out flaws, or throw ideas on the table...I could be way in left field on this. The only thing that really makes me think that it can be done, is because you are able to piggy back a standalone on our pcm, so whats the difference between a standalone and another pcm? (other then tuning features in the standalone)

Re: swapping in a different PCM?

btw, email from Hp tuners said that the 99+ 4.3L pcms are the ones that are like the LS1's

Re: swapping in a different PCM?

hptuners will not know which pcm to "Log into" if 2.

standalone will be via usb or 9 pin connection.

will have to tune orig pcm for trans, look at graph i made above.

in simple 2 pcms wont work together one will freak out if not getting the right input.

so I guess setting up another obd2 port wouldnt work either?...I was kinda getting excited

These ideas are interesting BUT I am not seeing how an LSx PCM would work on a V6. You're looking at TONS of modification here - electronics, wires. I don't think you can even do dual PCMs. It's a fun theory but IDK. A PCM swap would be good for someone like me that has a 96 PCM that does not have Tuners for their year. I am just thinking critically here. ;)

I would go with another obd2 port and have one for each. That way you are only messing with one PCM at a time

yours you just need a 97 pcm, no biggy there.

The ls1s have a ton more tables available to tune. So if you can trick the PCM into running your v6 while it thinks it is still a v8 then you have access to all the extra tables that are needed for things like Speed Density tuning

You wouldn't even have to trick the v8 pcm into running a v6...the 4.3L is a v6 and is the same as the LS1 and has all there tables because of the same operating system etc...

What would it take to run another OBD2 port?

^ the problem that I can think of when doing this is that both pcms have to communicate with one another as they would rely on each other for information to keep the car running.

My other idea that I can think of at the moment goes back to just swapping in the 4.3L pcm and ditching ours, but we need to do something about the distributer. N20equip said that the LS1's run a coil pack per cylinder, but the 4.3's run the distributer.

I am not electronically inclined so I dunno if something within the pcm itself could be swapped so that it accepts an input for coils...but does maybe someone sell a kit to go distributerless? maybe msd? Does anyone know of any 4.3L's that have swapped out the distributer for coils?

I read something about it on another forum, but they were talking about crank sensors and such, and I was kinda in over my head as far as understanding exactly whats going on...
