  • EGR Delete Tuning?

If I was to remove my EGR and block it off, i would have to re-tune it wouldn't I? from what i have heard there are negative effects of taking it off, but can they be tuned out, if so, how?

I can't remember the exact codes, but you can just run the car and then turn off any egr codes that pop up or just go down the list and turn any egr related codes off. I believe there is one other spot to switch to deactivate it but I am not home with my laptop right now. I am on the work computer.

so all you have to do is delete the codes really?

My experience with egr! is the engine wants to load up on fuel at any extended idle times. If there is any fine tuning for the idle besides target afr 97rs could probably tell you.

other alternative is an egr sim... but if you already have hptuners, might as well go that route
Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
              Custom interior...

I dont think the EGR even works until the intake temp gets to a certain temp. However i have no idea what temp, and no idea if it can be made obsolete by just messing with the temp when the egr will activate. But im sure if the code was just deleted it would take care of the issue without hassel. Talk to ssms he is really good at tuning from what i hear.

Typically, the tuning problems that arrise after you disable EGR are

                  1) The ECM will set fault codes when it detects the EGR is not working
                  2) Engines with EGR have much different spark cal at part throttle. Consequently, most engines designed with EGR will detonate at part throttle once its disabled.

The solutions are to do whatever is necessary to disable OBD II's EGR monitoring and recalibrate the spark tables.

Lastly, there is no useful performance increase in disabling EGR.

                    3) Fuel economy will suffer from deleting the EGR.

I had to add alittle fuel when I deleted mine with the deleting the codes, never had problems with timing and KR since I run 28 degrees at WOT and max at part throttle.
