Ok guys I just finished putting back together my 2000 3.8 camaro after doing a head gasket job and when I tried to start the car it would crank but not turn over. I notice on the ignition coils they had 2 of the same numbers on 2 of them. For instance 1 coil was labeled 2 and 5 and the other two were labeled 1 and 4. The car ran fine before I did the job and now I do not know the correct firing order for the spark plugs. Also when I try to start it a security light comes on in the instrument gauge, or where the speedometer is when u turn it on lol. Do I get a OBD scanner and see if I missed any plugs or what do I do?

Re: firing order
go to a local parts store, and just look in the haynes manual. you dont even have to buy it. it should have the fireing order listed.
Is it back fireing through the intake/exhaust?Team NoVa

Re: firing order
Are you getting fuel? Are you getting any hint of spark? Turning over and cranking are the same thing. Stuff like firing order is rediculously simple compared to a head job, how did you do the heads without a manual for specs?

Re: firing order
Well the thing is I had the haynes manual but I lost it when I was doing the torque specs for the lower and upper intake manifolds. I got the repair manuals for those from autozone repair guides online. When I try to start the car it just cranks but doesn't turn on. The security light keeps flashing so I don't know whats going on. I will try to make sure the firing order is right first.

Re: firing order
Yeah I know that is pretty weird. Well after researching this problem online I found that you can leave the key to the on position for about ten minutes and it should go away. I did that and it did go away. Tried starting the car and it did but it started bucking so I shut it off. Going to go and make sure the firing order is ok. Thanks for the replies :)

Re: firing order
Well I guess I fried something and I am really sad. I left the OBD diagnostic tool in the car and when I turned it on I smelled something burning and the diagnostic tool got fried. I borrowed it from autozone. 160 down the drain. I ran the hot wire coming from the positive terminal on the battery to the back of the alternator( don't know if it belongs there) but im guessing it fried it. There is also a sensor on that same wire, well two sensors one for the back of the alternator and another two prong one that I don't know where it goes??? Also I forgot to connect the ground wire that's on back of the engine by the firewall I don't know if you have to. The gauges on my speedometer are flipping out with the key off and now doing the little ten minute trick still did not start the car. I am really depressed and feel I have shorted the cars computer. My dad checked and said there was no spark. Sigh I am really close to junking the car after I spent 500 bucks fixing the heads and gaskets and a lot of man hours(almost 3 months because of work and school) and I think im just going to sell it to a guy at work who wants it for 500. This car has done too much to me, or I am just that stupid. Sigh

Re: firing order
the gauges flipping out sounds like a bad body to engine ground...check into that. just run a wire from somewhere ont he body to somewhere on the engine and see, shouldnt take but five minutes to test that theory.Team NoVa
