P0420

Hello All -- need some suggestions. the vert is throwing a code. P0420 "Catalyst Efficiency below threshold"

Can you give me some ideas on things to check first. Is it obvious to check the catalytic converter? She's running ok, not missing as far as I can tell -- little hard to start this morning.

We replaced the fuel pump and filter about 3 weeks ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How old is your converter? It's either the cat or the sensor afterward. My bet is the cat.

Maryland has fairly strict inspections too, don't they?

converter is as old as the car....2002 with 116K on it.

In Maryland, you only have to have a vehicle inspected 1 time, unless you let your registration lapse, then you have to have it inspected again......

On the Eastern Shore of Maryland, we are not required to have emissions inspections at all, I think.

I'm saying it's the converter then. If it's running well, you could always install a SIM to turn off the SES light.
