hi, have a 96 y87 firebird. know the 96s can't be flashed but a 97 can and will work in the 96. was told that my 96 VIN wouldn't work with flashing a 97 PCM. anyone know if this is true or not? if not, i would need a 97 vin flashed into the 97 PCM? if i do need a 97 VIN does anyone have a 97 VIN for a 3.8L Y87 auto? thanks for any help!

Re: 97 PCM flash, need VIN - PLEASE!!!!!
I tried flashing a 96 VIN onto a 97 pcm when I sold it and it wouldn't work since hptuners doesn't support 96's. The car will still run fine with the wrong VIN though.94 Camaro convertible -- mostly stock
97 Firebird -- Project Car - kyb agx shocks, eibach springs, 3.42 torsen diff, aluminum driveshaft, slp cai, pacesetter headers, magnaflow cat-back. hptuners. not done yet.

The PCM will have a VIN in it when you get it. You need the the PCM to be flashed with a tune to match the options for you car.sigpic

Re: 97 PCM flash, need VIN - PLEASE!!!!!
Should be easy to find a vin with a auto and a Y87 option so it will have the 3.42 gear ratio for you. But if you plan on tunning it , it doesn't matter what vin you use. You can keep the stock vin and still use Hptuners and correct the gears/ tires. But since your a A4 , I would def. look for a A4 PCM so it saves alot of copying and pasteing the tables over from a M5 to a A4 PCM. If your not going to do any upgrades right now , no need for a 97' A4 PCM.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine
