Questions regarding Texas inspections and 96-76 PCM Swap
Questions regarding Texas inspections and 96-76 PCM Swap
Hello, its been a while since I've posted on here, but I was wondering if these PCMs actually store information on the VIN that came with the car, or when used to program the PCM for the swap mentioned in the title...
Next thing is, (quite related actually) if I install the 97 PCM in my car, can it be picked up the shop's inspection scan tool as not original to the car (hence why i'm asking the first question)?
I have a 96 with a 97 pcm in AZ, it still passed, you could try it, worst case scenario is you just put the 96 in when its emission time. And to answer you question yes the vin is stored on the pcm, but with Hptuners I think you can change vin #s, would have to go on the hptuners forum and ask .

I'll swap it out later and have a go at it, meanwhile i should attempt rediagnosing the P1651 code the car then, ill post details in a separate topic. Thanks for the answer
No problem, 1651 the #1 fan relay circuit, shouldn't be too hard to fix. You could always do a high low fan switch.
