• Custom 3.8 PCM Programming by Magnus.. Need feedback and help

I have been doing a lot of research recently and I believe I can do it. The initial cost will be very steep for me..

So before I go out and buy the needed equipment to do this, I need to be certain that I won't loose major $$$ here.

I'm not sure how much I would charge as of now or how much I could do. I don't see the initial programming being any more than $350/$400 or so though.

First, I need to know if there is enough interest for me to go further with this project. It's no easy task and will take up a lot of my time and $$$.

Second, I could really use spare PCM's. If you have a spare PCM for your fourth gen 3.8 F-body, I could really use it to help determine changes between the years. If you are willing to give me a spare PCM (maybe you went to a 3.42 PCM from 3.08...), I'll cut the initial programming cost in half for you.

If you send me a spare PCM, you cannot hold me liable for any damage that may occur to it. If all goes well I will be able to get the info I need, and maybe test it on a few local cars here. If for some reason you need it back in the future and it has not been destroyed in the testing process, I will gladly ship it back to you.

I am not certain if I will be sucessful or not. I hope that I can be but from all the research I have it won't be easy.

that's awesome man. what and where did you find stuff about doing it? how much was it? when i was searching around to do the very same thing i couldn't find chit! that's why i have the MAFT+ and would buy HPP3 when it comes out in conjuction with the obd2 software you got everything you need. i would prolly do it also depends though. what's your turn around time!? what's your gaurantee?! huh huh?!?!

sidenote - what version of the MAFT+ do you have? i got version 4.2 and at least on the L67's you needed version 5.2.
i was swimming in the carribean. animals were hiding behind the rocks except for the little fish, but they told me the squid\'s trying to talk to me. oink, oink. where is my mind?

Lots and Lots of searching. Looking at things like LT1 Edit and LS1 Edit. Reading about how EFI works.. etc. etc.

how much was it?
The hardware and equipment I will need looks to be over $500

what's your turn around time!?
Not sure what it would be right now. I haven't even done 1 PCM sucesfull yet so I'm not sure how long the full process will take. The more experience I gain doing PCM's, the quicker I will be able to get them back to you.

what's your gaurantee?!
Right now I cannot gaurantee anything.

I have 5.2.. The box cover says a different version but the chip inside the box says 5.2 on it. I believe they will upgrade your chip for free.. All you have to do is send them your old chip.<hr></blockquote>

yeah i had looked into the lt1edit stuff for multiple VIN's for like $1500 i think which woulda been great but they don't do that stuff. $500 for hardware?! hell if you don't persue it tell me more about it i was thinking it would be closer to $2K. getting a techII and then going through the damn assembly language and figuring out WTF their different algorithms mean. seriously though good luck! as you could prolly tell i was just givin you chit on turnaround time and stuff. i would offer no gaurantee and and hope for the best.

With a reporgrammed PCM.. things like:
Raised Rev Limiter
Gear/Speedo Calibration
Shift point changes
DTC Code Deletions
Cold start fine tuning
Tuning for heads/cam
Increasing Timing Advance
Removal of Top Speed Limiter

Thinks like that are possible. This doesn't mean that _I_ will be able to do all of that. I am uncertain what I will be able to do. In time, I'll figure out what is where and hopefully be able to do at least some requested changes.

you can alway throw one of them in my car too to test them out Magnus before sending them back to the owner ;) Get you some practice! Heaven knows I'm gonna need PCM work on my car in the "hopefully near future here"! ;) :D

I'm sure Keith can stop by one of these days and tune your stuff to perfection. Why don't you two work on this together. Carmen needs a custom PCM and Keith needs to get his hands wet. Looks like a match to me. I'm looking forward to seeing the results. This could be really helpfull to the V6 community.

I just hope you don't fry $1000 worth of chips as I've done in my "chip burning/programming class." DOINK!! hehe. I got my tuition money worth. "Oh was that chip up side down? My bad."

Good luck to both of you!

For now, it will be strictly a 3.8 deal. In the future, if I do have time, I could look at a 3.4 PCM.

Dom, I had a very witty remark for you, but I'll save it.

One of these days I'm gonna need to borrow your PCM Dom,.... I just want to look at it.

Keith.... Let me know if you have a way to pull the codes out of the PCM. Next time I'm in town I'll let you use my car for the "imfamous" GU6 from the factory PCM in a 3.4L :D
