• (ALDL)...Diagnostic test not working?

94 camaro 3.4L v6
My Question is when I attempt to run the diagnostic test w/a ground wire(connecting test terminal-A to terminal-B)I should be able to extract T-codes by the SES light flashing, But I get nothing. No flashing SES. The Lights come on but again "no flashing".
I dont know but maybe my year and model doesnt have that capability?...anyone?

Remind me tonight, I'll look into this (don't have my resources at work).

The jumper worked on my '86 (with a paperclip> )... but I didn't try it with my 95.

Jump terminals, then turn key on DO NOT start car. Light should flash .... a number of times to indicate that it's connected, then it will flash so many times per code... but you already know that.

The Autozones/AdvanceAutos in CA don't read computers do they?

Again, remind me tonight and I will look into it for you.

Okay, I'm finding that 94 is a transition year... so you could have OBD I or OBD II.

Check to make sure you only have 12 pins. (OBD II has 16.) Pins A&B (the top-left two pins) are the Gound & Test terminal pins.

*Note that pins E & F look just like A & B... but they won't do you any good. ;)

Again, see if you have 12 or 16 pins.... and go from there. ;)

are you connecting the right set of pins? (top left)
....

and what are you using to jump the two? I used a paperclip in the past. that worked great.

I'm going by my Haynes repair manual so this is the set-up:
(93 and 94 models)
TOP-> |F|E|D|C|B|A|
BOT-> |G|H|J|K|L|M|
the book says- "A & B", so that would be "top right".
correct me if im wrong, but your saying use "(top left)?"

oh and I used a paper clip and then a jumper wire.

Ah-ha! ... figure 2.11b is OBD II... I'm looking at figure 2.11a (note little arrow)

How do they get at calling 2.11b 16 pin? I'm only counting 12. (grrrrr at them)

(Linky)

Connect Pins A&B using jumper... turn key "on", but don't start vehicle ... watch SES light and count flashes....

You're still not getting ANY flashes?

I also had these questions re: my scan-tool readings

--knock sensor
"does anyone know what the reading should be?"
-knock retard
"what should it read?"
-BLK LRN Cell
"what should it read?"
-spark advance
"what should it read?"
-CCP Duty Cycle
"what %?"
-AIR DIVERT
"should the solenoid stay on, or switch off?"
-closed loop A/F
"enabled/ or disabled?"
-injector QDM
"whats QDM?"

LOL, I've been there trying to jumper the pins on my '94. After a bit of reading I found that you could only do it on '93 and older. The ECM was changed in '94. I've yet to find a '94 owner with the obd2 connector. I think they did the mix and match with the new connector in '95. So, in short, '94 and and '95 owners can't jumper the aldl and they obviously can't use an obd2 reader. You're gonna have to use an obd1 code reader/scanner, which it looks like you already did. As far as your readings, they are too technical for me. The fact that the knock sensor/retard appeared twice would make me look there first if you had a problem.

"Another cr@ppy card dealt that does'nt help" for us 94's. Oh-well I guess I'll jus keep on searching for these other answers till I figure them out. Anyways, thanks for the imput.
