  • tuning for P&P throttle body

Alright, now that we have tuning for our cars (I am using HP tuners) I thought I would bring the topic of TB port and polishing again. Before us 98 and below guys had to replace the MAF with a 99+ one for it to work.

Now that I can tune, would I still need to get a 99+ MAF for it or would I be able to tune for the change in air coming in?

Anyone know how I would go about tuning it with the older style MAF like the 97s had?

You can tune for the pre 99 TBs, but the 99+ maf sensor is still more accurate from what I understand.

I was looking around the program some more. I wonder if all I would have to modify is the numbers in the "MAF airflow vs. Output frequency" table?

PLMK guys, I really would like to figure this out so I can go ahead and P&P that crazy thing. lol

That is one of the tables you would edit to work with your LTFTs. If your LTFTs are already good, AFAIK changing that table would only throw them off.

I think it's kind of hard to say exactly what you'll need to do. You may have to just hook it up and scan it and go from there. Work with it as you go.

I take it you are having fun with the HPTuners.
Look at my bin file I sent you and compare it to your car's stock programing. Should be a little difference in it.

well I have begun P&P my extra tb (blade almost all out already) and was wondering what you guys thought about the MAF screen on this. I have the angled tb from the early 3.8s and the general consesus was to leave it in, in the past. Was this because it was needed to straighten out airflow or because tuning wasn't avail.?

I would like to ditch it and port out the lip that holds it in place to open the tb up some more, but not sure if I would still need that screen yet.

                  Any thoughts?

Try it without it, just be careful when you remove it, you can always replace later. I Ported and polished (a True 65mm all the way). I removed the hump and restriction to the valve ( coned to 62mm) in my 99 TB. I see gaines best at over 85mph since I now have a greater positive pressure on the intake.

Alright, I got myself a 1999 MAF sensor cuz I heard those work good with the P&P tb. My question is, should I now use the 1999 MAF table or leave my stock one?
