  • Worried... Just increased spark timing

My car feels like its to fast. I can't floor it in first gear at all or my tires spin or hop and if i accelerate through a turn in 2nd gear now my car goes sideways..

I only took it on 1 WOT run because it seemed to fast, and I want to make sure I am not damaging anything before I continue.

This is what I did.. read my PCM added 2 to the high octane table, copied the high octance table into the low octane table(after I added to previouslly) Then wrote it to my PCM

Was that right or did I do something wrong?
I am on my girlfriends PC so I can't post my scan.. she has win 98 and my jumpdrive doesn't register on her computer so I will post the scan tomorrow. There is KR at the top of first gear and at the top of 3rd gear, the most KR in first gear was 1.1.

1.1 is nothing at all, probably false knock. Did you copy the original high octane into the low octane table, or the high octane plus 2 into the low octane?

high octane plus 2 can I increase the spark timing more?

yeah probably... I am playing with adding timing,a nd I see knock in the top end of each gear too...

        Ideally you want 0 knock.

and to remove knock i would decrease timing I suppsose? How do i know which cylinder mass to decrease the timing in or should I do it for the entire row that the rpm is at?

what are some other thing I can do in hp tuners to add some horsepower?

increasing the timing has given me a VERY noticable increase of horsepower.. i was amazed when I floored it.. doesn't feel like the same car

I added another 2 to the spark timing, and changed the injector from 2.17 to 2.45, I scanned it and The highest KR I saw was 1.7, that was only at one point in the run though, other then that I saw KR in one other place and the highest it went was 0.9

How do I get rid of the KR that was 1.7?

It seems to keep happening at the top of 1st and the top of 3rd (in the 3600-4800 range)

Does increasing spark timing really help that much?? And if it does, it'll probably make a big difference in gas right???

it gave me a large boost in torque.. I can feel it when I press the accelerator, there was a very large difference going from the stock tune to adding 2 to the table and copying it to the low octane table

not to mention how I can't floor my car in 1st gear with out the tires spinning or hopping and in 2nd gear I could always accelerate through turns, now if I try to do that my rear tires spin in 2nd

low octane table should be -4 from the high octane table

what is the hit count on the KR your seeing?

The highest i have seen is a 2.1, and thats after I increased the timing by 7

Some one just told me I wasn't suppsoed to increase the whole table when increasing the timing.. what am I suppsoed to increase? I will change the timing of the low octane table.

I have to wait until tomorrow to send files.. I have been logging my runs and taking the KR histogram and subtracting that from the high octane table.. is there a way to do the histogram all at once instead of doing the cells indvidually?

How do I create a .bin file? I know how to make a .cfg but i've never made a .bin

well its .hpl i think if you have 2.0

the bin file is the file you tune/open to make changes... email that and your scans to me

                          (I can tune 1998 ;) )

okay I will send them to you.. but I was hoping to try to learn how to tune my car. Will you tell me what you did so I can compare the two files (stock and the modified) that way I can try to learn

You need to watch the KR and timing histogram. These will tell you exactly which fields are being used on a WOT run. It will be mostly the last two columns towards the bottom. I would just start with increasing the timing in those cells. The cells that have KR, decrease the timing in that cell by the amount of KR.
