1999-2002 PCM Service Number Info?

Guys I need some help here. We had a big discussion on PCM service numbers over in this topic:

Well, I've found some new information. I got a Service Number 09361735 PCM, and hooked it up. The PCM isn't dead BUT it will not start my car. I scanned it and found 2 codes: 606 and 1518 I think. Both look to be related to the throttle control. I checked the vin on the PCM I bought, and it's from a 2000 Buick Lesabre. It doesn't work. So I'm wondering if 09361735 is the WRONG number to look for.

I uploaded the tune to the junkyard PCM and it still wouldn't start. Since uploading the bin file didn't work, I'm assuming that it's a hardware problem and that a trip to the dealer to reflash it wont help either. Would a PCM from a 2000-2002 3.8 Fbody work for my application? And if so, can you guys actually check your service numbers and alpha program code for me so I can ask the junkyard for one of those numbers?

Hey Chris, as I think you saw from the other thread, the 0936 PCM is for a non-electronic throttle controlled 3.8 car, such as the Lesabre and others. Which is why I suppose that one won't work for you.

From what I gather from other '99 owners having problems similar to yours, it doesn't seem to matter if your car came with a 0937 or the 0936 PCM, both of those numbers can't be relied on.

From people here and on other forums having similar problems with Wester's, TSP and now even PCMforLess, I have only seen one solution that worked 100% and that is to send them your original PCM to have reflashed. All of the problems arise from trying to use core PCM's from other vehicles.

That original GM tech article link seems to indicate that a dealer could call their tech support for assistance in flashing the PCM for the '99 Fbody. So possibly the dealer could get it working. But I have yet to hear from anybody who tried this.

Ok, that gives me some ideas. I have some more questions though. Since I plan on tuning myself I really don't want to send it off to get flashed.

I have a 1999 Camaro with a 3800 V6 and an automatic transmission. I have been searching for a few weeks trying to find a PCM for my car. During my search I’ve ran across some discrepancies. I ordered a replacement with the same service number, but the vehicle wouldn’t start, just crank. I had the vehicle scanned with that PCM in, and found the same codes that are listed in that link (P606 and P1516). I later found that the replacement PCM came from a 2000 Buick Lesabre and will not work since my car has the Electronic Throttle Control, and the Buick does not. After many hours of searching I decided to contact GM directly. My whole purpose for this correspondence is to find out the correct service number for a 1999 3800V6 Camaro. Please help my fellow FBody enthusiast and I solve this mystery.

From info I gathered, 2000 Fbody is 09380717 and 01-02 are 12209624. Not sure if either of those would work for the '99.

Going by that tech link about calling TCSC, it sounds as though the dealer can do something to the PCM to get it to work with ETC. Hopefully GM will email you back with some direction.

Normally I would assume that any PCM from another '99 3.8 Fbody would work in your car, regardless of whether the label is 0936 or 0937. However this particular issue seems so fubar I hesitate to even suggest this.

I hope you get this sorted out. I've talked to quite a few '99 owners who have been bitten by this.

for your 1999 Chevrolet Camaro.

I have been advised that the correct part number for the PCM to your vehicle is
9374997, it will cost approx $225 plus core charge and can be ordered through
your local Chevrolet Dealership. This part is reprogrammable and needs to be
reprogrammed at the dealership.

I hope that this information is of assistance to you. I have added this
information to your file to fully document this for you, please refer to file
number X-XXXXXXXXX when corresponding about this matter.

So, I guess I'll call the junkyard tomorrow and see if they can track me down one with that service number. If not, then I'll call the dealer and see if they can flash the Buick one for me.

Ok, new update. The service number that GM sent me, 9374997, seems to be the correct one. I had my junkyard find me one of those. I plugged it in and hooked it up today. Car started right up and everything. I still haven't done any tuning to it yet, but it'll happen within the week.

Well, I guess the mystery is solved. The last service number I posted was the correct one. I have the car running with the new PCM, and tuned. Thanks for the help guys.
