Whats the story with the tsp or pcmforless tunes regarding 96 3.8's. Ive heard some say it can be done, and some say it cant. I'd like to get a tune done, but is it even possible.
Can they send me a 97 pcm ready to go, and i just send them back my 96 pcm for the 75 core charge?
...or do they actually have the code cracked for the 96 cars now?
hp tuners cannot tune 96 pcms. DHP tuner can do 96 pcms but tsp uses hp tuners. I am not sure about pcm4less if they use hp tuners or not. As for cores, no idea if they have any on hand, my guess would be they do not.
i know DHP can get you a 97pcm and tune it for you, ready to plug in and go. PCM4less can do the same thing. Im more than positive TSP will too. Thats the route im going with my 96, just gonna get them to find a 97 PCM, flash it for what i have and put my VIN on it, and tune it. DHP quoted me 300$ for everything if im not mistaken.
Black 1996 3.8 Firebird T5, SLP CAI, Pacesetter Ceramic Headers,160* t-stat, PCMforLess Tune, Flowmaster American Thunder catback, Car Sounds Cat, custom s-pipe, MSD coils and wires, NGK plugs, 3.42 posi rear, B&M Ripper, 245/50 BFG-G-force's
Yes we are able to tune the 96 F body's. We are able to put your vin in a
computer and give you the best tune avaiable. The only catch is we can't
take your PCM as a core. The 95-96 3.8L stuff is sold flat out. Its still
not such a bad deal.. For $225 you get a spare PCM with a tune loaded up
with your VIN and ready to go.
If you decide to get a tune from us all you have to do is order a PCM like
you would for a 97-2002 V6 F-body. When it comes to the ordersheet you'll
be able to select a 96 V6 F body.
You can take a early peak at our ordersheet by going to pcmforless.com then
ordersheet, then all V6 cars/trucks.
FYI- remember that you have to take it in to a dealer to get a CASE learn done when you install the new pcm.. it only has to be done once to the new one andyou will be able to change between the 2 without doing it again (unless you change the sensor or throw a code for it)
i do this for free for my customers but they are in person if but most dealerships i have heard charge a 1 hr minimum for it and it takes like 10 sec to do.
he doesnt know what hes talking about. pcmforless can do that for you. I just got a new pcm from them and everything is smooth with my new pcm. They burn in your VIN number and everything you specify for your car.

No, lvemy3100 is the one that does know what he's talking about. Do you even know what a CASE learn is? Any time you swap PCMs, you should do a CASE learn. Usually you don't need it, but it does sometimes cause problems if you don't. You have to have a tool hooked up to do it.
well, damn, i stand corrected. i guess i just got lucky with mine. How does the case learn work? i know it deals with the crank sensor position, but how do they adjust that without messing with the tune? bring me up to speed on that.
