  • 2000 Camaro tuning

I have just replaced my open 3.08 to a lsd 3.73 myself, my question now is which tunning method is better HPTUNERS or DHP. I want full control of speed and rev limiters. While the computer is hooked up, can the software read the engine stats and record the data and later show it in a graph format easily without exporting the file? I would like to hear comments on both of these programming options. As for the gear and posi change, lots of work but fairly simple to do. Just remove the whole axle assembly and start there.

you wont loose with HPT or DHP. yes, both have engine stats/recording in real time. but HPT has graphs.

do a bunch of searching on this and any other forum that you can think of and make the decision for yourself...

there are already too many threads in countless car forums that have gone over this...

in the end it is up to you to decide

Try going to both websites and looking at the screen shots they provide. Look and see which one looks more friendly to you. I have HP Tuners and think it's very easy to work with, but I've never seen DHP, so I wont say one is better than the other. With HP exporting is a snap, you just click on the export icon and save it.

what do you want? cheaper? or better? I'm sure you can get by easily with cheaper. There isnt much to be gained from tuning, just leaning WOT AFR.
That being said, I would go cheaper. Seeing how I've spent over $1000 in tuning hardware/software alone.

Not much to gain from tuning?

I guess everyones experience is different but if you put the time into it ive got .3 tenths out of a stock firebird and .6 tenths and 7.5 mph in the quarter mile out of a lightly modified Grand Prix.

Be prepared for long hours of rewarding frustration.

And slow6 you might want to think in the other direction with your WOT AFR you will probably get better results :)

oh, I know there are alot more other options to modify other than leaning WOT AFR. Its just that thats the big one. Stock timing is good. And alot of times people's stock WOT AFRs are already pretty lean (13.2:1).
You have a grand prix, so of course youre gonna gain more from tuning than us N/A v6ers.

you could find a few more hp on a dyno, but it wouldnt be very cost effective. I love HPT, very easy to use, but if I could do it again, I would go DHP. HPT is a little too extravagant/overkill for me. I keep searching, but I havent learned anything new in a long time.

thing to remember, with either, to tune you will need

                    laptop
                    program
                    wideband

you can do some stuff without a wideband, but in the end you need a wideband to be effective.

sorry, I dont get your point?

                      laptop......................................may cost at least $200
                      program (HPT EIO PRO)...............$659
                      wideband(Just the sensor)...........$80
                      ------------------------------------------
Thats......................................$939 right there, without tax, shipping, handling
You need to get it welded in/bunged......which was free for me
I already had a good laptop (the new HPT data logging capability still requires you to have a laptop for flashing/writing)
I bought the AEM so that was $300.
Just was a lot more than what I originally planned.
