Gear ratio change - DHP

My friend and I got the DHP Powertuner for our W-bodies since its unlocked now...and I have another friend with a 99 Firebird with 3.73 gears, 2400 stall but he's never had the gear ratio changed in his PCM. I know I can do it for him, but the DHP forum is catered to W-bodies.

Does anyone know what data I should change under the gear ratio section in DHP to help him out? Meaning what should I enter for the drive sprocket ratio (stock GTP is 1.12) and calculated pulses per revolution (stock GTP is 22.3). I know there is a formula for the 4T65-E trannies, but I'm doubtful that the internal gearing of the 4T65E-HD is the same as the 4L60-Es found in f-bodies.

you will have better luck on the GTP boards........ i tried DHP and it was impossible to use

it doesnt just let you enter in the gear ratio & tire size & automatically calculate all that stuff & redo your shift points for you like hptuners?

no you have to export everything to word or excel and edit it then test it lol

Wrong viper. While I respect how much knowledge you've gained since the FbodyV6.com days, don't knock DHP that much. I've used it since day one, and yes it is a little more difficult to use AT FIRST than HPTuners. I will say, HPTuners caters much more to the N/A crowd than DHP, however I know you can tune the same things with HPT as DHP. Almost ALL of the knowledge on the DHP forums is really geared towards L67 owners.

Heres how I make changes to my MAF and VE tables with DHP - go scan the car for at least 20 minutes of driving and not going into WOT (so that PE isn't enabled) with LTFT/STFT/MAP kPa/RPM/KR/AFR set to logs. Export that .csv scan file into this prog thats available for downloads from the DHP forum. Then I just export the CURRENT maf table by right clicking on it and saying export, then import it into the prog and click the button to make the adjusted changes...then a nice txt file pops up with what the changes are made to the new file...then RIGHT click on the maf table in DHP and import the new file. I've done that about 4 times now and my LTFT's at idle and throughout cruising are between -2% and 2% as you obviously want them to as close to zero as possible.

I do the same process for the VE table. I now have no flash KR and I peak at 1.8* of KR at WOT now, I'm still learning the PE tables. I've been tuning for 1 week now. Everyone says DHP is impossible or so difficult to use, I really do beg to differ. I'll admit, the screen shots i've seen of HPT are MUCH much more pretty and bottom line, if I still owned an F-body, I would DEFinitely go HPT over DHP just due to the fact that HPT is so much more catered to the N/A 3800 market than DHP.

Back on topic,I figured it out, its a simple as dividing the old ratio 3.08 by the new ratio 3.73 and then multiplying that result by the values already in the gear ratio tables. Yes, it takes an extra 2 minutes to use DHP verus a drop down (assuming thats how HPT is). However, DHP is wide open...no credit system.

yeah it do able but at the track in the stageing lanes i don't always have 2 minutes to figure al lthat out....... i'm kinda slow you know :P

LOL...the fastest I have done that process is about 1 minute just due to the time it takes to do a partial write. I'm glad there are two companies, keeps the competition high. A friend of mine who lives in the adjacent building in my apartments is building a turbo 2001 Camaro SS and bought HPT..he told me about the next version having the capability to basically tune the car for you. Is that true?

LOL...the fastest I have done that process is about 1 minute just due to the time it takes to do a partial write. I'm glad there are two companies, keeps the competition high. A friend of mine who lives in the adjacent building in my apartments is building a turbo 2001 Camaro SS and bought HPT..he told me about the next version having the capability to basically tune the car for you. Is that true?

yup plus they are adding tun on the fly ford veichles and all kinds of stuff

the real time tuning stuff is already available for most LS1 operating systems...unfortunatly due to many factors I doubt the 3.8 v6's will ever see this option.

I don't find tuning fun. What I find fun is the finished product. The constant scanning/logging is so monotonous (sp) and I get sick of it. I hate working on my car as well, but I love the finished product so I continue to work at it.

I enjoy tuning, althought it is a lenghty process, because you can test your knowledge and skills. Having 13*KR down to 6*KR with a few simple changes, made me smile for a second, but I had to work at that 6*KR.
