I have a 96 firebird 3.8 v6

do i have an OBD II ? how can i find out?

SES light is on but running fine ,,whats the simplest way to get the codes ,?

also is my pcm programmable ?

might have to get a 97 pcm
go to autozone to get the codes scanned free

You should have an OBD II. I was told that they started putting OBD II on all cars beginning with the 96 model year.

Yes.

Go to AutoZone and have them scan it.

NO, there is no programming available. It can be replaced with a 97 PCM, but ONLY a 97 PCM.

also the computer has to match the transmission you have
unless you flash the computer to change the tranny with HP Tuners or DHP

Wait one second there, the 97 pcm is compatible with a 96 camaro, given you need it to be programmed for your car, but its capable to put it in. y the hell are we one year short, whats the difference in our cars years if theyre the same?

the code is different for the 96....97 pcms are a direct swap though as long as it is the same trans

the 96 pcm was a transition year for gm to obdII they basically converted a obdI to obdII standards

also the 96 pcm does not have as much memory as a 97pcm

the 96 pcm can be programmed with DHP
