Re: hypertech
Each year has a different Service Code which is basically like the hardware revision of the PCM. Some cars share the same Service Code (many years the FWD 3.8 cars use the same PCM as the Fbody) but they will have different programming, which is like the firmware revision.
So each year and model of car can have a different hardware/software version of PCM. If you put the wrong software on your PCM you could render it unable to start the car, it would be like flashing the wrong BIOS to your PC. So the Hypertech unit will run a check when you connect it to the car to make sure it was designed to program that particular year and model so as to avoid causing harm.
You can usually get a mail-order tune for cheaper than a Hypertech programmer, and most of the vendors offer advance shipment and core returns so your car doesn't have any down time waiting on shipping and turnaround.1994 Firebird 3.4<br />15.65 @ 86.8<br /><a href=\"http://www.funkz.net/firebird.htm\" target=\"_blank\">funkz.net/firebird</a><br /><a href=\"http://mywebpages.comcast.net/funkz/timeslips.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Timeslips</a>
