So I seem to have the black hole year for a f-body as far as tuning is concerned. Im throttle by cable so the hypertech 3 is out, would a like 96-97 program work for tuning? 3.42 rear A4.

you are not in any black hole.
hp tuners and dhp both have programs you can buy. Or you can get a mail order tune from TSP or pcm4less
96 are the ones that get screwed, they have to put a 97 pcm in to be able to tune it

yea you need to replace your pcm with a 97 pcm if you have a 96 car

direct swap, two screws to remove plugs and then pull out and throw the 97 in. About a 10 minute job unless it needs to be tuned to change the trans if you don't get one with the same trans

what you do is go order the part you need, and pay for all of it there, including the core charge, when the new one comes in, get it. ask the autozoner for some tools so you can disconnect the battery cable and the two screws that hold the computer in.replace. then connect everything back up and crank your car to make sure everything is running smoothly, take it up the road and back even. then take your old one inside and get your money back for the core charge. i had people do that all the time when i worked at autozone.
