  • Getting dynotuned next week!!!

The heading says it: I'm getting it tuned ON THE DYNO: anyone want to make an educated guess what it will pull?

LOOK AT MY MOST RECENT POST ON PAGE 3

    My mods are:

    Edge 3000 stall (97% efficiency)

    Comp GT2 cam: 216/216 .507 .507 111 lsa

    LS6 90# valve springs

    Flowmaster 80, 2.5" pipes, !cat

    3.42s with Auburn LSD

-I have stock replacement plugs/wire with 20k on them
-just had the engine rebuilt (long story)
    -had injectors flushed last week
-coolant was flushed while they rebuilt the motor
    -tranny is in good shape

I'm hoping for something over 200 rwhp, I'd be really happy with 220. I know this question can't be answered too accurately, but can anyone give me an educated ballpark figure? I don't like to ask questions like this, but I can't help it dammit, I'm excited!

I'll go with 206. What do we get if we guess right?
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

maybe 185-190rwhp. The torque converter is gonna rob power on a dyno (but it makes you quicker :) ) If you had the stock converter I would say over 200

how does the converter rob power on a dyno when it transfers power more efficiently than the stock converter? I've been told efficiency on a stocker is about 88-90%, I can't be for sure though.

whenever a higher stall is added the power goes down on the dynos but the E.T.'s drop as well which is what you want.

Look up 12secondv6's dyno results after changing converters and all he seen drops on the dyno but quicker 60ft and e.t.

The HP isn't affected as much but you have have stock heads.

                Re: Getting dynotuned next week!!!

I think his drop in torque numbers probably had something to do with the fact that he went with a converter with more STR: high STR lowers efficiency. He also gained 2 rwhp. I've also seen variations like that in the same dyno session. Air conditions can account for some variation as well. I've checked out his torque converter specs before and he has at least 2.7 STR (mine is 2.4) and an efficiency somewhere in the low-90s if I'm not mistaken. My Edge is 97%.

His car is setup to LAUNCH like a mofo. I'm not saying my car is putting down mad power, but I think 185-190 is way too low, and I'd be EXTREMELY disappointed with that.

BTW: you still didn't explain WHY you think that any high stall converter robs power...citing one instance when (12secondv6) saw a drop in torque (but not hp) after changing from one high stall converter to another does not prove by any means that high stall converters in general rob power as opposed to stockers. Please, prove me wrong by explaining it mechanically.

I think I'm putting my bets on Viper's estimate, although I'd like for it to put down more.

youngsc: you get an online nod of approval if you guess right! :)

I was just saying it was going to mess your numbers up when compared to a stock converter. That is what I ment by robbing ya on the dyno.

Your numbers will depend on the tuner though and their skills with tuning a v6. Also what kind of dyno is it going to be? Dynojet or mustang? Thing with dynos is to never go in thinking you are going to get some high numbers because most likely you will come back disappointed. Shoot lower and then be happy when they are higher.

ok I think that makes a little more sense...I think what you're really saying is that a dyno number doesn't necessarily represent accurately the power you're putting to the ground when a high stall converter is a factor. I can see that. I will still be disappointed with anything below 200, but I'll get over it if that happens.

It's a dynojet I'm pretty sure. Whatever it dynos, I'll be shooting for mid-14s at the track, assuming I can get good traction.

if it is a dynojet then I would put my numbers over 200. Mustang dyno's dyno way lower than dynojets.

mustang dyno's are generally said to be more accurate and dynojets are ego boosters usually, lol.

they way it loads the rollers mustang is suppose to be more like on the street but the new mustang dyno read almost like the dynojet ones now
