DIYAutotune has MS1 kits on sale for a little less than $150 last time I checked.

So, any updates on how to get a 4l60e working with it?

also, how does this work with the speed limiter? does it just ignore it?

oh my, this is quite interesting..

        http://www.megamanual.com/4L60E/

I will need help to get this going, so expect pestering!..lol.

I want to get this all operational before I start going a turbo route or anything. I don't want to be all jacked up on transmission control after I spend a lot on that crap.

        edit:

That looks to be the latest update. The GPIO board has a lot of potential.

If you wanted to run megasquirt now you should be able to hook it up for engine only control and have the stock PCM seeing enough for stock transmission control.

But even though I prefer manual the idea of a fully built paddle-shifted 4L60E would be sweet...especially with the valve body that engauges overdrive after each gear effectively making it a 6 speed...

            Re: Tuning an 3.4

If I can make it work right now (with the option of the GPIO board later), I am quite interested.

When you put yours together, how difficult was it to get it up and running? I have done c in the past, and from what I hear, it is 80% comments in their code to make it easier.

Does it let you set your fuel injector size and what about the speed limiter? How does that work out. I'm getting quite serious. If I can make this work, then I'll look into the turbo build up. I'm getting a lot of stuff done for my focus (as far as the turbo, the tuning is easy for it through SCT and a wideband), but I am quite happy about these developments.

              Re: Tuning an 3.4

You don't need to screw with coding at all. It's all GUI through the free program Megatune...it's all menu based unless you're doing something unusual, which other than the developing 4L60E control it's all pretty standard. Injector size, engine displacement, etc are all set in the GUI. Like I was saying, at this point you can just hook it up like my wiring diagrams if you're using the MS-I/v2.2 and the stock PCM should continue to control the transmission. And since the megasquirt would take over ignition and fuel control the speed limiter wouldn't be an issue anymore. Megasquirt doesn't need the speedo input to run the engine so it knows nothing about it. Just don't go faster than your tires are rated for... :P

I got mine up and running in a weekend once I assembled the megasquirt. I took my time with the wiring in the engine compartment and layed it all out nicely.

Just as a side note, if you want to have the option of the GPIO board later you'll have to use MS-II now. I don't yet have any wiring diagrams for that but it's not really that hard to figure out.

Now that looks nice...did you use a wideband to clean yours up? I have one for the focus that I wouldn't mind hooking up to the camaro.

Honestly, if I could just let the stock pcm do the transmission, that would be fine. I don't need tiptronic shifting or anything. As long as the engine works (and is tunable) and the speedlimiter doesn't exist anymore, I would be great.

                    Re: Tuning an 3.4

Yup, I tuned it with a wideband...the $200 Innovate LC-1. I didn't need a gauge since that's built into megatune and is viewable on the laptop. Megasquirt also has an air/fuel ratio targeting feature: once you get the table well tuned it'll keep it where you want it.

My engine is fully tuneable for fuel and spark and the speed limiter is gone.

Pretty sure I am convinced. I need to start looking for hardware. Yeah, I have an LC-1 one for the Focus, so that is easy. I'll just have to be able to swap 'em, but that isn't too bad. I need to just read up on the forums (for megasquirt).

I was afraid I was going to need to break into emacs and gcc to make this happen (changing values and then recompiling c...rofl). Glad it isn't quite like that!

                        Hey All,

Add another to the list of MS'd 3.4 V6's. I just finished assembly of mine, it's an MS-II 3.0. That was A LOT of soldering. I'm planning on installing the harness this afternoon and hoping to have the car at least start tomorrow on the MS. Turbo, I know your site says you're using a MS-I with the ignition hack. But I also saw a write up you did using a MS-II V3 here: http://home.att.net/~basic-4/MS2GMDI...MSII_Guide.htm .
Are you now running a MS-II? If so, can you upload a base program?

                        Thanks,
                        Brian

                          Awesome...the more the merryer!

No, I am still running MS-I v2.2 with the -extra code. I put that MS-II ignition guide together based on the documentation I read on the MS-II. As far as I know you're the first to actually test it. :O

Do you still have the base MS-II code loaded in the processor? They have developed a version of the -extra code that runs on the MS-II processor that has a lot more options than the base code.

Ok, I looked up some stuff. If you're still running the base MS-II code in the megasquirt processor then my guide is still sufficient as it's the same as on the www.megasquirt.info site.

But if you're running the MSnS-extra code for the MS-II processor then the hardware mods need to be done like the ones here:

Yea I have the regular MS2 base code. I just looked into the MS2-Extra and the only added function that would be useful to me is boost control. I'm going to get to that but not with this motor. I've been wanting to build a 3.4 w/ 3400/3500 top end and forged pistons, I'll boost that one. Thats still a couple years down the road. Anyways, I didn't get a chance to start the harness yesterday I'm on my way out to do it now, I'll post another reply if I get it working by tonight. Thanks for all the research, and the write up Turbo, it really has been very helpful in deciding which route to go and how it should all go together.

Got everything hooked up, but it doesn't start. I went over the wiring 3 times to be sure, but it was late so I'll try again next weekend. The fuel pump wasn't coming on and I'm pretty sure there was no spark. It did see all of the sensors though. I've gotta go through the HEI section of the megamanual.

Back to the drawing board :-P.
