I have the FAI, soon to be a more of a ram air mod ( I'm fabricating my nostrils since my bird is down for now. ). Well, there is a sale going on with a guy I know who does tuning on 3800 Series II motors, and my 98 Firebird is one of them listed for a PCM tune...( I plan on copying dmw's exhaust by the way; thanks for the info bro'. )...now, does anyone know on the Advanced timing issue....how much is too much?

Re: Tuning question on my bird.
its time consuming in the least to figure out "how much is tooo much"
just dont advance it alot (I know a good shop wont advance it to say.... 50 degrees, Even If It Has 0 KR!) - that would be a n00b mistake.
The only way you're gonna be able to tell "how much is too much" is by spending along time on the dyno or at the track and we all know thats not economically wise.
At WOT, the LS1 guys dont get any extra power from advancing their timing to high levels.... say beyond 15-20*(I forgot the actual #) and they will LOOSE HP/TQ.
Summary: You're not gonna get much (IF ANY) power from fabricating your own CAI / Ram air, etc
You may advance the timing maybe a max of 3*-5*... but no more than that!!
And if all you have done to your car is a CAI / Ram Air then you dont really NEEEEED a tune. Its always a good idea. It will be more worth it if you have more mods. If you go ahead and get a mail-order-tune or whatever, then make sure you get free lifetime updates!
Make sure that is a reputable tuner too2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!

Re: Tuning question on my bird.
is this tune you are thinking about getting a mail order tune or is he tuning your car himself on a dyno or something?

Re: Tuning question on my bird.
I'd wanna know what all will be tuned, besides the PE table.
For $75 more you could get lifetime updates.
Which would come in very handy if you only have 1 mod = (CAI/FRA)
and are planning to add more mods.2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!

Re: Tuning question on my bird.
For $75 he cannot go wrong and will see much better gains than a mail order tune. Even a stock car when tuned will pick up some nice power and speed with the right tuning.
Mail order tunes are shots in the dark and not always the ideal way to go even with just a CAI. He will see better results from the guy doing it rather than a mail order tune. Unless the guy doesn't have any experience with v6 cars and tuning them. Then I would go mail order
