  • PCM for less warning

i just had a fellow board member scan and tune my car. i had prevously had it done by pcm4less. on the first scan we saw that i was getting 28* of timing. thats good and all except this was supposed to be a nitrous tune they did for me which should have pulled some timing. i was getting like 8* of knock. luckily we got it all tuned out and turned the timing down to 20-22 degrees. just gonna give a warning though, could be an isolated incident.

sounds like you were running lean if you were only at 28* and 8* KR.
was this on the spray? What rpm?

yes it was...my main problem is that they upped the timing on a nitrous tune... which is most likely why i have a diffrent motor setting in my car right now.

It is better to run richer than to have more timing (anyways)
....... I'm not just saying it is "safer", but it is also more power!!
Too much timing is Worse than not enough timing!
        Idiots!!!
I'm very sorry for your bad experience
This could've easily ended up ALOT worse, like you having to buy a
        new engine
        I would demand refundage

            OMFG!!!
I'm sure they are not liabel cause you probably signed an agreement.
But they should refund you for the Shltty tune at least!!

This is exactly why I tell people to get a professional dyno tune for cam, FI, or nitrous rather than a mail order tune.....

I'm glad you got it worked out before anything happended chubby. BTW, what size shot are you running now?

im on 75 for now, got a pretty good tune for it as well. i will be going up to the 100 soon enough, honestly that 75 feels even better now with a good tune behind it. i contacted pcmforless and told them about the situation. i will let yall know what thier response is.

                    Re: PCM for less warning

got a reply from him, basically dodging the fact it could have been their fault.

                    his message read:

Nitrous is a tricky beast. First to make things straight the tune I sent to you has between 24-28 degrees of WOT depending on where you are at. Honestly the car should have been in the 25 degree range given your gm/sec You can just look at the highest timing you see at that region of the table and say thats what timing I have in the car. Second the timing I used worked quite well in my own V6 with a 75 shot.

Now, the reason for the engine failure cannot be blamed on the tune as it is your responsibility to double check to make sure both the fuel and timing look right.. That can be done easily by just throwing the car on the dyno, or checking with a wide band. Its also easy to check if the car has too much timing by looking at the plugs.

With such a small shot the timing I have programmed into your car is just fine. With a 100-125 shot you would have started to see the timing backed off a bit.

I'll bet this failure was fuel related as that is what causes most nitrous failures. Did the piston melt or did it knock a ring land off.

i never said i wanted them to pay for it, i was just wanting an explination....i didnt know they would base a tune off personal experiance, i figured they would go by rule of thumb since each car is diffrent...oh well nothing to do about it now.

Was it scanned and re-tuned with HP Tuners?

I've been messing with your tune a little and I have some new things to try
next time you want to mess with it.

I dont care what the dude says, running 25* of timing on a STOCK fuel
system WITH a 75 shot is still stupid.

you want to run as much timing as possible without KR with nitrous, so if 25* works without KR then it is completely fine

what part have u been messing with daniel? oh and u were right about the clutch, it went completely out last night, have a new RAM GRIPFORCE going in soon.....and yes 25 would be fine with nitrous if their is no kr, however i dont think they should assume just becuase it worked on one of their cars its fine for everyone elses.
