  • advance timing?

if i started running 93 on my stock 3.8 could i do more advanced timing? and would that make a noticeable performance increase? just looking for a little extra "kick" while waiting for the turbo :naughty:

i would wait on the turbo until you start running 93, and turn up the timing at the same time. but to answer your question, yea i guess you could.

if you weren't getting KR then you can advance the timing. Only way to tell though would be with hptuners or a scanner.

        Re: advance timing?

most people retard timing to help the turbo spool faster. advancing timing means the burning air/fuel stay in the cylinder longer, transfering more heat to push the piston down and to the cooling system. retarding timing causes more heat to go out the exhaust and help spool the turbo. I believe that 75-80% of the energy used to spin the turbine comes from exhaust heat and not velocity.
