I know that the timing is retarded. I want to know if it's normal to have sometime -40 of timing advance and an average of -15 ?
I bought my HP Tuner in early winter so I didn't log any data at the track but I expect my car to have as much power than this summer and my last track time was 15.5 @ 94 mph.
My mechanic said that the timing advance numbers aren't good because my car would run very slow with those numbers.
Just to mention, the timing chain was replaced at 137500 miles. The car currently has 162500 miles, so the timing is supposed to be ok.
I just want to know if my mechanic is right when he say that the numbers cannot be as much negative as -30 or -40 ? That if the numbers are right, the engine would run very bad ? This is not the case right now because the car is running very well.

The negative #'s are suppose to be positive #, just an error in hptuners. So never mind the - in front of the #. Also you look at your timing under Wot like 97rs4life image above. Then you can select max or min to get your advance, remember since the #'s are reading neg. the min setting will tell you your max timing.

I pretty sure it is only a 1997 problem , mines been reading - advance since I bought it about 4 years ago, I thought there is a fix for it changing something in the pid's but I never tried. I don't mind the negatives readings anymore, I'm use to them now. As long as you know there not really negative.

That explains alot, I was reading vipers log and its all minuses, I looked at mine , and it looked like I would have to pull 30* out before boosting the vehicle.
I know along time ago I ask Hptuners if they could fix the error and they said the would have to redue the whole programming and it wouldn't be worth the time and efffort just to fix this one problem, so I think they came out where you can change something in the PId to correct it. As long as I can tune and still read the scanner I don't care about the - in front of the #.
