    Re: hp tuners question

The HP Tuners module uses a USB 2.0 Interface. Any laptop with Windows 98 or better can use HP Tuners.

      Re: hp tuners question

It doesnt have to be a usb 2.0 compliant laptop I dont think.
      Dont think mine is...
You dont have to have a laptop at all if you get the MPVI EIO PRO which has stand alone data logging. But it would be preferable to have a laptop cause it would be alot easier than having to take your Desktop pc out there using an extension cord. lol

You can use your existing laptop

I'm not trying to send you away from here or anything... and you are Very welcome here!
But HPT also has a forum where you can ask questions such as these and probably get a better answer

you get 8 credits to use. To tune a single vin car it is 2 credits. Then you can tune that car as many times as you want but only that car. With 4 credits you can get year/model so if you got the 97 year/model 4 credit option you could do any 97 fbody 3.8l car.

You can actually tune up to 4 seperate cars using the single vin option or buy a 97 year/model and do all 97 cars, then have 4 left over for other licenses.

                  Re: hp tuners question

normal doesn't have the inputs for things like wideband gauge and also I believe the professional allows you to log data black box style where you don't need it hooked up to the laptop.

I personally just have the standard version and if I get a wideband I am going to rig it up through my egr wiring and trick hptuners into reading it. I have seen this done a couple times with success.

Up to you if you think you will use the black box logging and want the easier access to wideband hookups and such

depends on your tuning skills really. A poor tuner can loose power and a good tuner can gain a decent amount on a stock car.

You don't install hptuners like a hypertech programmer, you actually have to go in and make the changes to your stock pcm and rework tables and values

installing hptuners onto your computer will gain you 0 hp by itself
Like 97rs4life said, you have to change alot of things which is pretty technical, requires some good knowledge of how an engine works, etc..
It will take alot of gas at first and alot of time

and will take even alot longer to learn how to use it
but with other peoples help you will succeed if you are patient and persistant
