  • Huge problem with superchips #2900

This story is a nightmare... I bought a superchips computer chip for my 1993 firebird 3.4, (superchips part # 2900) when it came it needed to be programmed which meant i needed the 4 digit code to have it programmed properly, i was told that it was on the ECM itself. First off many sites have said that it is either in the engine compartment or under the dashboard (both passanger side) anyhow, I pulled out the ECM from the engine and found an acccess panel but the chip on the inside was completely different than what it should have been(it should be a 3 inch blue eeprom) instead it is a small chip that comes out, i even pulled my passanger side dash apart to see if there was a cpu in there and there was a box but when i pulled it apart it didn't have any kind of chip or eeprom inside. I am out of ideas, i have a chip that needs to be programmed, which code i cannot find, and even if i do get it programmed i don't know where its supposed to go! Does anyone have any experience with a superchip #2900? Please help i am out of ideas

easy to say...i emailed and called, the people i talked to didn't know very much, they just reaffirmed that i needed what i didn't have. I emailed them pics of my ecm and chip but i got little help, they just said to return the product. I need to find someone who has put the superchips part # 2900 in their vehicle.

There is no programmable chip like that from superchips. Your chip isn't even for the 3.4l engine

        1988 - 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Performance Chip - 2.8L, V6, MFI Part #2900

        # 5.7L, V8, MFI Z28, ECU Under The Hood On Passenger Side S542900 is another model for the lt1

also pulling up beretta chips under that line

I personally think you got taken for a ride. Return it and get your money back.

Tuning the 3.4 you can get jet chips stage 1 or 2, or go the route of a stand alone system like megasquirt.

3.4 guys are currently screwed for tuning really, people are still looking into it and trying as their turbo 3.4 cars are in need of tuning

From the information that I have, the '93 3.4 PCM is no different than the '94-'95 in that it is flash-only, and does not have a removable prom as many people and companies seem to like to indicate. The part that is removable behind the access panel you found is the knock module, which is completely different from an eeprom chip. There is nothing under the passenger side dash as that link would indicate, the PCM is out under the hood.

Your options are Jet module, Venom module, Hypertech (if you can find one) or Fastchip reflash.

this is great info, i was ripping apart my dash trying to find a cpu with a eeprom inside, so what your saying is that the small chip i did find in the pcm is not the replacable one and that i have to use a jet chip to tune?
