    The black rectangle with the white grip around it (which can be removed via the access panel without opening the entire PCM) is the knock module.

    I don't know where these companies get their misinformation from. ALL the 3.4 Fbody cars used flash programmable PCM's. It seems the confusion may come from the '92 year where there are 3 different PCM's listed for the Fbody, 2 of which are flash and 1 which is the older prom style. At least this is the indication as the two '92 and '93 are the same as '94-'95 and all have service numbers beginning with 16 and are 8 digits long, whereas the other '92 PCM is only 7 digits and starts with 122.

    The Jet and Venom modules do not modify the stock PCM, they are external modules that tap into the wiring harness. The Jet module interfaces directly between the connector and PCM. The Venom taps off the TPS and MAP sensor wires. Both operate similarly in that they modify sensor input signals to the PCM to increase performance. From my understanding however the Venom only affects mid-throttle settings, and does nothing for WOT. If you want to get one of these easy-to-install add-on modules I would go for the Jet Stage 2 or nothing at all.

    Hypertech used to make a Power Programmer for the 3.4 but it was discontinued in 1996. This is a hand-held unit that plugs into your ODB port and actually flashes the stock PCM with a performance tune. There is a very small chance you could still find one used in working condition. I have one and am satisfied with the results.

    Fastchip can flash a 3.4 PCM with a basic performance tune and remove the speed limiter. They may also be able to correct for gear/tire changes and other things but I have heard from a number of people that they refuse to offer any custom tuning for these engines.

    Then there's the MSD DIS4, Megasquirt, and F.A.S.T. but these are all more expensive units and not realy a plug-n-play install.

      THANK YOU ! You have prevented a suicide.... one question though, would the jet stage 2 plug into one of the 3 wire connectors on the back of my pcm?

        Yes, it goes on the grey connector. You also have to hook up a single power lead.

            No, just plug it back in before you put the PCM back in your car.

                    thanx funk, that looks like the right one, and cheaper than i thought too, in your opinion what does the jet chip actually do peformance wise, and is it worth buying it when it comes down to it?

                      I don't have any personal experience with the Jet modules but another 3.4 owner once dyno tested his car with and without one of them and it gave a measurable increase in performance, around 10 at the wheels IIRC. This was on a car with full bolt-ons so not sure how it would do on a mostly-stock car. If it was me I'd probably try to find one used, like on eBay or something, hopefully cut that price in half. Only trouble will be finding the exact model number you need. But with a new one at least you could return it if it didn't live up to your expectations. I would suggest some track time or dyno if you have one available to ensure you're getting your money's worth, should net you 2 tenths or better.

                      Regarding the manual vs. auto I don't think for '93 it should make a difference. Both used the same PCM for either application and the auto in '93 was still using the non-electronic version of 4L60 so there shouldn't be a difference in the program.

                              The exact bolt ons? Let me know how the performance is....roughly how many ponies? Also, care to elaborate on on why you don't support the jet chip??

                                Unfortunately they are year and transmission specific, although both auto and manual in '93 used the same PCM and the trans was not electronic so those should be interchangable.

                                There is only one part number listed for '93 3.4 -> 19312
                                '94 3.4 lists two -> 19401 for auto, 19402 for manual

                                I think many people here have been satisfied with the Jet modules. For most 3.8 owners however more gains can be had from retuning the PCM and there are several companies that offer this cheaply. The 3.4 only choice is Fastchip and it is more expensive.
