  • i hate my car. HELP!

    at 5400 there is spark knock out the ying yang and with only 14 degrees of timing, it's yanking 9 degrees out at this point on. the IAT temps are 185 at this rpm also.......hp tuners only goes to 176 degrees therefor anything after that, so no can fix. the maf is all but (might as well be) maxing out at 5400 to 5500 and beyond. i just read vipers site on the MAF, which is worth a shot.. but it still doesn't correct the 185 degree air.. also, about that KR "fix" on vipers site.... you may as well just shut the knock module off altogether which would fix the the KR problem and youd have no more KR problem right? wouldnt it beat the pistons off the wrist pins? i think turning it down a little may not hurt a thing..it may take very little to correct anyway...

    any ideas? suggestions? this thing will never run right.

    You lost 5 pistons due to KR?
    If you are experiencing KR do you know your true AFR via a WB sensor?

        What is your ACTUAL wideband verified afr at wot?

        the last cell of the iat adder table gets carried out to that 185* your seeing...but you might want to consider an intercooler or something similar as those iat's are a bit high.

            Your air temp comming in is rediclulus (sp?). Isn't meth injection supposed to cool the air? It might be the fact that the air has to run through the S/C and that might be heating it up. I'd look into an intercooler, or the FRA modd.

            I wouldn't suggest removing the KR sensors, because they are basically warning sensors incase your engine is starting to grenade. You might be able to tune the KR sensors so it takes a lot more shock to set them off. That also might be the problem. Your S/C, modds and meth injection are going to create a bigger explosion in your cyclinders; if you are using stock sensors at stock settings it's going to expect the stock knocking from the stock explosion. See if RPM can't tune the sensitivity down. I don't see how that wouldn't hurt.

            Also, about the MAF. The stock ones are pieces of ****. Why do you ask? Because I have a WS6 Trans Am with only a lid, and I maxxed out my MAF already... I'd invest in a bigger one and one that can handle more flow. Which that might also be your problem. Once the MAF maxxes out your A/F will become lean, which might be causing the KR. I'd definitly get a better MAF before anything.

            Cliff notes-> Get bigger MAF because MAF is maxxed and might be causing the car to run lean and thats why it's prolly getting lots of KR from the PCM.

              my air temp doesnt take the meth injection into account because it is spraying after the sensor. the FRA wont change anything and there is no sense in having an IC AND a meth kit. RPM is working on tuning it right now and its just not pretty. there are ways to get around my MAF that they are also working with, but i shouldnt be maxing it out at the RPMs and HP numbers im seeing, espcially with that stall in there keeping them lower. i do however agree with you on the KR sensors

                the first thing u should do is make sure the computer is reading the temp drop from the meth. kit. whether u wanna keep spraying into the manifold and move the temp sensor somewhere in the intake manifold, or move the injection forward of the temp module is up 2 u. the computer will be able to tune better if it sees the temp decrease. that might be the problem u have right now. it also could be that ur maxing out the maf and need a bigger maf. in this case, u'd be good to go with an LS1/LS6 type maf and running maf maps for those. they flow more and can read more. another option, which requires a ton of tuning, is dropping the maf completely and running a speed density tune off the map sensor. u can get upgraded map sensors that go up to 2 and 3 bar boost(29.4 and 44.1 psi respectively). i have a feeling though that if u just mess with the temp sensor and meth kit ur problems will go away.

                  hm.. thanks for the advice.. ill talk to my mechanics/tuners about that next time. im sure they have some ls1 mafs laying around haha.

                      ls1 maf isn't going to gain him anything, lt1 maf might work. Also good luck trying to get 2bar and 3bar support from hptuners, they ignore requests like that from the v6 crowd as demand for it isn't high enough to make it worth it

                          yes i have an EGR

                          the maf is maxing but that isn't the problem, the iat is.

                          with an iat of 115 degrees yielded 272 RWHP with 0.2 KR at 5500. (the A/F was as flat as could be all across the rpm range and at 11.5:1)

                          with 158 degrees iat, 265 RWHP with lots of KR after 5400 and the PCM subtracting 9.0 timing.

                          with 178 degree iat, 251 RWHP with even more KR after 5400 and the PCM subtracting all it is allowed (10)

                            I guess it really doesnt matter if you have an EGR or not (sorry)

                            I thought the max KR was 15? (dont ask me how I know)

                              i just checked all the specs for ur car. u have no intercooler, and i assume ur running 9 psi on the powerdyne, or trying to. an intercooler will help lower the intake temps. put a meth injector right after the compressor, or right after the intercooler if u decide to do that. try colder plugs as well, and put on a tb spacer that blocks coolant from flowing into the tb. these will all help the knock ur getting, but i dunno how much.
