Can I use a chip from a Grand Prix (or maybe it was Grand Am). My friend has one for his 3.8L that he wants to get rid of. We both have the same engine, except his is the FWD version, right? Any possibilty it would work with my Camaro? Could it **** it up if I tried it?

Re: Grand Prix chip
if you have a 99-02 absolutely not due to you having a drive by wire throttle body, in fact, with DHP the drive by wire PCM's don't even have a Volumetric Efficiency table like the standard cable throttle body equipped cars do. I wonder if its due to the lack of TPS sensor on the drive by wire cars.
Most importantly, your shift points would be way out of wack - 4T60/65E fwd tranny has different gearing than the 4L60E...
I'm sure ff you had a tuner (like HPtuners or DHP), you could do a full write to the 98-02 grand prix PCM with an f-body bin file and get it to work.-1999 Camaro Coupe 3800 Series II V6 A4 - SOLD
-1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP coupe

Does HP Tuners use a USB chord, or serial chord? I'm trying to check out all programming options I have since I plan on going FI soon (hopefully turbo this summer, if not then N2O).Last edited by RadRacer; 04-21-2007, 09:24 PM.~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~

Re: Grand Prix chip
Go HPT if you have an f-body. I have the wide open version of DHP and getting a 99 F-body bin was like pulling teeth! I think theres two other people that post regularly on dhp's forums that have V6 fbodies.
Personally, I two 98 GTP's. One is a Daytona edition and my daily driver, all stock except for minor bolt ons and probably runs mid 14's, I don't want to take it to the track...and my black one runs mid 13's now but I keep it in the garage because I burnt up 4th gear playing with LS1's way to much on the highway. Anyway, DHP has a HUGE pool of knowledge for W-bodies and it took me about 2 weeks to completely learn it...and don't let anyone tell you that you have to export things into excel and use a spreadsheet blah bah anymore - those days are gone. We have a nice side program now. However, I know HPT does all of that crap for you in the program itself.
Regardless, spend the extra money on HPT if you can afford it - the wealth of knowledge on F-bodies is as extensive on HPT as the wealth of knowledge on W-bodies on the DHP side. It will also be easier for you to pick up HPT versus DHP.
I don't want to start a war, just my view from someone who has used both programs before. Good luck!-1999 Camaro Coupe 3800 Series II V6 A4 - SOLD
-1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP coupe

Re: Grand Prix chip
hptuners is the way to go for your car. the hypertech is not made for 97s and it would not work for you if you are planning on FI or nitrous as well as it advances timing
