Ever so often i try starting my car and nothing doesn't even click over just the security light comes and stays on.I wait a few minuts ,go under the hood pull a few fuse out then install it back in..Sometimes it starts sometimes it doesn't.Does any 1 know what the problem is and how could it be fixed? And also i could be driving and the car will just shut off,i'm thinking maybe a bad fuel pump.Anyways if any 1 has an answer or sugestion to my car problems,it would be appriciated..thanks.

sounds fuel pump related. Do you hear the pump when you turn the key on?

when it shuts off while driving does any lights come on the dash?

it's the resistor chip in your ignition key. either it's damaged or the thing in your ignition switch that senses it is faulty.

Yeh its your ignition key lock cylinder..Its like 15 bucks from the store. Then take the key that comes with it to the dealer with your old one. And have them cut a new key from the one off the new cylinder but the old chip code. That will fix your problem...

It's your VATS system. It's easy to bypass but you'll lose your security feature...though the plus side is you won't be left stranded. I bypassed it. And yes, it is your lock cylinder that causing a bad resistor reading from your key.

That's a diagram of how to bypass. The wires are under your steering wheel in the knee panel. It's an easy 15 minute job. Go to Radio Shack to measure your resistor level on your key and buy the resistor to solder closest to that reading.

super dood is right.evry now and then i get a new key made. once after changing a starter duh. havent had problems when its running tho. i got a separate key ring for my camaro so the chip will last longer because im not carrying with all those other keys. once the lock smith told me the problem wasnt the key but it fires every time with the new key.

                  Re: security lght problem

this happens to me every now and then, but it hasn't become so much of a problem to where i've had to do something about it yet. *knock on wood*

i have an M5, and before i knew it was the security deal i was trying to start the car by rolling it and letting the clutch out in 2nd gear. it sputters for a while, but doesn't start. i think when the "SECURITY" light is on, it actually shuts down the entire ignition system, right?
