I know there has been quite a bit of discussions revolving around pcmforless.com and some people having problems. Now i'm considering getting a tune from here for my 1996 camaro and I would like to hear opinons from people who actually ordered a tune from here...Were you happy? Any problems...did u notice a difference with it, was it worth the 225$... etc...
Just honest opinions from those who have dealt with the company and ordered a tune
i got a tune from there. pretty happy with it. everything i asked them to do was changed, remove certain check lights, cut fans on sooner, remove speed limiter and so on. Change the speedo for larger tires and different gears. i got it programmed to run on 93 octane, and to advance timing and such for my mods. i would like to hook it up to a hptuners and actually see what they programmed into it. Only way to be certain on the tune you get is to take it to a dyno and tune it there. i dont think it cost that much money for you though unless you have a 96 like i did and couldnt send them back my own pcm. They give you 100$ back if you send them your stock pcm 97+ after they send you the tuned one. so all together only 125$. Overall i am pleased with it. When the time comes to tune it again, im going to do a dyno though, but that has nothing to do with pcm4less.
Black 1996 3.8 Firebird T5, SLP CAI, Pacesetter Ceramic Headers,160* t-stat, PCMforLess Tune, Flowmaster American Thunder catback, Car Sounds Cat, custom s-pipe, MSD coils and wires, NGK plugs, 3.42 posi rear, B&M Ripper, 245/50 BFG-G-force's
thats an option.....but i checked them before i bought the pcm from pcm4less, and darn near all of the pcms for our cars go for around 100$ on car-parts.com. pcm4less is competitve with pricing. they are going to charge you 100$ for an exact match for your car (man/auto) and they even test it for you so they know it works. I say keep it simple and stay with pcm4less for both. i dont even know if you have a 96 so this probably isnt even a problem for you. If you are 97+ you are already set to roll.

Actually thats one of the reasons why I'm interested in what people think of the pcmforless tunes. Im wanna know what people have noticed in there cars since getting the tune whether its been problems as I have seen in some threads, or good gains. I've done as much research as I can for our 1996 cars and all I've come up with is getting a mail order tune...or buying a 97 pcm and tunning that...but that comes out more expensive.
other than them adjusting what you tell them to specifically, they are just tuning the pcm based on other peoples pcms that they have tuned, if they were successful with it. thats what texas-speed does as well. tell them what you have and they tune it the best they can. I am sure they have had test 3.8 cars come in there and they play around with them, i dont think they would just tune with a shot in the dark.

im not going to bash them or nothing but i had nothing but problems out of mine. heres the facts:
#1-since the first day i had mine ive had this weird problem. i run the car and let it get to normal temp, then say go in a store for all of 10 minutes. when i return and crank the car it feels as though it has a bad miss to it. it will continue this until i bring the car up to some high rpms (almost redline). once i do this it stops. i have talked with them and they said it had nothing to do with their computer. however if i switch out pcms with one of my friends that has the same year as me, the problem stops. I have even swapped entire motors since i had this pcm and still the same problem.
#2-when i ordered the pcm from them it was for a nitrous tune on a 50 or 75 shot. It is a well known fact that with nitrous you pull timing. (the usual is 1 degree for every 50 shot). After getting a scan from a fellow club member i found out my computer was demanding at least 2 or 3 degrees of timing MORE than stock. at the very least i would expect the stock timing, but i assumed some would have been pulled. During the time i was running this pcm i chipped the number 6 piston and had to put in a new motor. Im not saying that the pcm for sure caused this, but it very well could have. (**i know this was a big cause for argument in a past thread and im not trying to start anything, just giving my opinon).
If i had it all to do over again i would have went with texas speed or got a dyno tune. Just my .02

Yea i remember reading that thread...what year car did u have again?
Thanks for the comments, I'm not running any nitrous so i dont think i have to be too worried about timing problems, but its nice to know and learn from other peoples experiences and I may just go with texas speed...
mine was an 01 with a M5. is ur car an auto or stick? if its an auto i hear the improvments in shifting are really nice. You should post up in your regional area as well and see if anyone has hp tuners. I did and found someone real close and ended up trading some extra parts for a scan and tune. (which is when i found out about the timing issue).
You probably read my thread but i think i got screwed? I think my speed limiter is still active, I mean its not like I drive 120 everyday... and not sure it was tuned for 92 octane like I asked cause I put regular in there and nothing. I am not sure... one thing i did notice was better acceleration thats about it.
the pcm's are usually set up with 2 diffrent fuel tables. one for high grad and one for low. so running regular wouldnt usually mess anything up. still wouldnt put it past them...maybe they pulled the timing from your computer that they were supposed to pull out of mine:)

Yea I was kinda thinking the same thing...that just because the pcm was tunned for higher grade octane wouldnt necessarily make it run bad on regular...just not as powerful and efficient as it would be on 92 octane...i did read that thread to lol... Even if i did find someone with Hp tuners in my area they couldnt do much unless i picked up a 97 pcm and swapped it in...which from what i've heard is in the end gunna be competitively priced with what pcmforless and texas speed are offering me... I do have an automatic...and pcmforless offers 3 different shift packages...i have no idea what the differences are on them tho?
im sure its basically like any shift kit would offer. just a low, med, and high setting depending on how firm you want your shifts. For everyday driving i think the medium setting would probably suit you best. another good thing you can do is get them to disable codes. Then you dont have to worry about some of those pissy ones that pop up for no reason (like after removing a cat or something along those lines)

Tru tru...I dunno if i really wanna disable codes right now...I dont really get any and the OBD II diagnostics computer im gunna buy I believe clears them...and yes i know there is the three settings but I just dont understand what they mean by "firmer" shifts...like when u say firmer...what would be difference if say you were comparing it to normal shifting in an auto? I dunno...stupid question i know, but i just dont really understand "firmer" lol
basically just imagine the time in between shifts. normally now its what like a second to two seconds in between shifts? by increasing the pressure in the lines it makes the shifts quicker, which gives the sensation of the transmission going into gear harder(firmer). This is good for two reasons, one you gain time you usually spend in the middle of gear changes, and two it causes less slippage and clutch wear. hope that helps some.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
