  • Is chip working?

yeah, so i just installed a jet chip stage 2 for my 93 firebird, ... the question is, how can i tell if it's actually working? My ride doesn't feel any different, the SES light isn't on so that must mean its working correctly, is there any physical way to tell if the chip is being affective? (how can i tell if the spark advance is working better or the firmer shifting?) Or should i just cross my fingers and hope that something is better than nothing?

get it dynoed. there is no way to tell unless you have a diagnostic software.
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

i never had a good experience with the jet chip stage II. When I installed it I think i talked myself into thinking it was doing something or working. But when my car would shift into 4th gear on the freeway for something.(A4)

My rpms' would fluctuate 500 rpm's up and then back down again. Dont remember if it was just downshifting and then upshifting again but it did it constant like that when i would drive on the freeway. It felt like it was something electrical, so i just pulled the damn thing outta there and sold it. Never had that kind of tranny problem ever again. And that was happening after my fluid was all gravy, just like it has been the last 10k miles.

            Wierd Huh?

i think anyone who buys the jet chip wants to believe so badly that it's helping their car that it kind of becomes reality to them. i.e. ("i think my car feels faster") when in reality it probably hurts our cars like you said. When does 4th gear kick in, i'm going on te highway tonight and i'll check if it does what you said

You can test it out without fear of tickets, just go to a track some weekend. Pay the $25 or whatever to get in for test-n-tune. Make a run with it hooked up and one without. Run more of each if time permits. With it in should be .2-.3sec and 1-2mph faster.
